    Default Burn the Heretics!

How can I decrease the amount of heretics in the campaign map? Or make them more easily denounced? I just can't stand them anymore. They don't bring any fun to the game, only the meanial job of trying to denounce them with inept priests. If I try to denounce them with my priests, they just convert themselves, and I've got another pesky heretic to deal with. I remember there was a file you could edit to change the percentages, but I've forgotten it.

(though you might call the easiness of priest-to-heretic conversion realism.. )

Look into the descr_campaign_db.xml file under the religion tab. There you can assign the max mount of heretic in one region and what the spawn rate is.

Hm, i thought KK said he was going to reduce the amount of heretics-- and vastly increase the amount of witches. I've only seen a couple witches, but a truck load of herectics. Anyway, going in to mod it right now.

what are the percentages that affect the priest to heretic conversion, and heretic denouncment? I'm uncertain of what values I should change there.

I think you shouldnt change something at all because heretics are just part of the game and should stay in!

I think they should stay too. Although I would much rather see more witches.

Nice sig by the way, glad you got it working.

Well there was a lot of bad things in Vanilla that got changed in SS, and I'd include heretics. I just don't see the fun in denouncing them, it's just too tiresome. It was nice in the benning, then it got boring, and now it's just frustrating.

But I guess it's good to have some heretics to represent the difficulty of keeping one religion. But I'd like it better if the priest had a higher chance to denounce them and a smaller chance to convert themselves

Not only do I not really see the fun in denouncing them (mostly it's just a bunch of micromanagment and racing various high-piety priests around), but it doesn't even simulate anything interesting.

Having to use a priest to burn a guy (who, until you burn him, will convert a small % to "heretic") doesn't really simulate the real problems which faced medieval rulers. After all, it was often the case that burning a "heretic" would anger the thousands of followers they've amassed and lead to a major uprising. The way the game simulates it, you wonder why every ruler didn't have a constant inquisition going on; there's no benefit whatsoever to letting people with other ideas live in your kingdom in MTW2, so why not have them all killed ASAP? The reality, obviously, was vastly more complicated, with rulers having to balance out appeasing the church vs angering the adherents of the new heresy.

Heretics are no problem, they can be easily assassinated, if you train your assassin properly. To train, click on the assassin. Press ~ and type the following exactly as shown

That is not training, that's cheating.

Actually I want to increase heretics, so as to include Bogomils, Cathars etc so that events have more impact. Maybe add in a Spanish Inquisition as well, just for the surprise value.

Well, I call it training. Once the assassin is properly trained, not only can he kill all those pesky heretics, but he can also be be used to kill other faction priests, generals, diplomats, princesses, merchants, etc.

Don't you hate it when the AI spams you with foreign diplomats that hang around your cities doing nothing. Well, your handy "properly trained" assassin can be used to clean up all this extraneous clutter. Hell, I even use them to get rid of neutral or ally agents that are cluttering up the campaign map making a nuisance of themselves.

And if you want to have a chivalrous leader, you really don't want to go assassinating all the heretics
Chivalrous leaders are just a bunch of pansies. As someone once said "it is better to be feared than to be loved."

I remember there were inqusitions in my country but i cant remember if it was in medieval 1 or 2. If i ermember right it was a nice way to reduce the number of heretics/improve catholic zeal in your country.

they also kill family members & generals, careful.
On your PC, the units seem to perform quite poorly. I think there might be something nearby the PC that is causing this problem for you. You may need a mirror to find out what it is.

That was M1, quite interesting event too, your whole population got slaughtered, not just a single character your'e glad to get rid of.

The whack-a-mole mechanic does get tired.
I'd like to see more event type civil trouble, in which perhaps 5 heretics are spawned in a region, this would give it more impact.
Because you would quickly have the population turn against you. they would have to be dealt with more promptly,
A few witches to spice up the medieval day would be nice, but not nearly as frequent as the heretics..

That would be a cool event
maybe add a pagan rebel army with a witch a 3 heretics
surely something like that has happened somewhere

    *looks stuff up*

I remember I saw a milanese, back in the old day, princess get smashed by a papal inquisitor and burnt at the stake. I found that sort of amusing as pricesses have no piety to keep up with. The only thing that bums me out about heretics is when your 8+ piety what-should-be-a-cardinal priest falls to heresy because you have nigh on no chance of denouncing him.

If you change this entry in descr_campaign_db.xml, you can tell the difference between a spawned cockroach heretic priest and an actual converted priest...
