Uninstalling help!

Hi all,im tyring to re-install RTW prior to installing RTR.After clicking the uninstall icon from program menu,i then manually delete RTW folder from Program Files and start a fresh install.
However,everytime i try to patch to v1.2 i get "Rome TW is already patched to v1.2",if i go with it and install RTR i get a CTD at loading screen.

I cant work out if when un-installing what is left behind?
Any help much app.

1. make sure you don`t have a game that is by default v1.5 and doesn`t need patches.
2. if you are trying to install RTRPE you don`t need the RTW v1.2 patch anymore:

if you run a tool like registry mechanic, you clean up your registry after uninstalling it. the standard uninstall function often leaves rubbish behind in your registry, making RTW think it's a different version than it actually is ...

Ok thanks for the tips,the menu screen is saying its version 1.0,but it thinks its already patched to 1.2,so i'll try the registry clean....

......so the freeware reg.mechanic didnt do the job,and ive gone through HKEY files in 'regedit' but cant find anything relating to RTW......oh well perhaps a break from RTR while figuring this one out will do me good...D'OH!

So in the end i went through the manual uninstall process (thanks for the link),worked a treat,1.2 installed fine.
I then installed RTR 6.0,and then RTR 6.2,ran the game and at the "Activision" loading screen i CTD!!! (i re-d/l 6.0 and 6.2 with a d/l manager so files shouldnt be corrupt)

.....and it all worked perfectly before!!!!

No idea what you`re doing wrong. But, rtr 6.2 is an older version. The latest version for RTW v1.2 if you still want that is RTR 6 Gold(which someone had the bad idea to name RTR 6.0 Gold making people install the 6.2 patch on top and so downgrading their games).

If you had an original loading screen, that would mean that a file during the installation of RTR has not been changed. My conclusion (personel experience ) is that you dit something wrong with the installation. Something like installing the mod in the wrong folder.

Or if you have the -mod switch version, it could be that you didn't use the shortcut but the .exe. But then I wouldn't know why you had a CTD, as you simply would have played RTW vanilla :hmmm:

Ive just done a show_err and it came back with, "Script Error in data/descr_event_images.txt at line 623,column 1
unkown event string faction_defeated_by_player"

After a bit of searching it would appear to be a corrupt download mssg.
Surely GetRight would see that wouldnt happen?

..... before doing another manual (ahem!) uninstall i thought i'd try and do a quick re-install,only this time i tried,successfully,to patch 1.3 and 1.5.
So gonna stick with it and d/l BI and i think RTR Platinum?
