    Default Worth the wait?

I was thinking of going ahead and dedicating some time to downloading this nicely sized mod because the unit art looks so beautiful, even though I'd have to do some settling for the fact that my Empire won't be able to expand too far West.

Tell me, how close is the next major version that won't be patchable up to? I'd like to not spend a lot of time downloading 1.5 if it is about to be 2.0 in a month or so with me having to do it all over again and abandoning my glorious campaigns.

Also, I'd appreciate a picture of the map to see how far it actually reaches... and maybe some reasoning for why I shouldn't feel dissapointed that the Byzantines can't go to war with Venice (I'm assuming.)

I think 2.0 is far away. They are working on BC 1.1 right now afaik.

    And that will be patch-upable?

1.1 will only include new content - so yes, in patch form... Unless the BC team's idea of a nifty joke is to make their fans download again.

Wait!!! There's a faster way to get the answers you need!

Read the stickies. Find out about the mod for yourself - there are previews for practically everything. It's much faster than asking us, especially considering everyones going to tell you to download it anyway...

    Basically here's the break down:

    Broken Crescent 1.1
Will be released some time in may and will be basically come in both patch and full installer form. It will incorporate all the sweeping fixes, balances, and new features. I would recommend waiting until 1.1 is released and hold of playing BC too much till then. BC 1.1 is going to basically be what 1.0 should have been if we had more time. Details will be announced after I get off exams.

    Intermediate Fixes and Patches
There may be some fixes and small patches we'll release to add to 1.1 and further balance. But if 1.1 is good enough, we may not need to. I don't envision the need for more than maybe 1 or 2 small patches post 1.1 just to sort out any remaining kinks or bugs.

    Broken Crescent 2.0
After this we will end any team development on BC 1.0 and the M2TW 1.2 build and will begin development on 2.0 which will be on the Kingdoms build. This will be a major expansion, map-wise, faction-wise, traits/scripts wise and units-wise. Progress on 2.0 will take many months and won't be released any time before end of the Summer 2008. Most probably it will be finished sometime Fall 2008 or even around when ETW comes out. It will basically be our final and greatest vision and ideal of BC fullfilled to the best of our abilities and will be in essence the completion of what I envisioned when I first announced BC and more.

So basically, wait for 1.1 and you will be spending alot of time on that version since we're putting alot of work into it. There will be no big update to BC for many months until BC 2.0, so it will be "worth the wait" so to speak.

Sounds logic to me, but so many months for 2.0? Seems a bit long. Unless the modeling and skinning hasn't started i guess.

1.05 Is really good. Don't wait for 1.1 (which I am sure will be better), because you can immediately immerse yourself in a new *Eastern* world.

Personally, I have really enjoyed taking Elephants West to bring Hindu enlightenment to the Muslim heathens :-)

I'm not saying you have to wait for 1.1, I'm just saying that if you want a more balanced and less stack spamming experience of BC then its best to wait for 1.1. But 1.05 is good enough for the time being, thats true.

BC took almost a year to make and that's with absolutely professional and speedy artists like AD (who worked above and beyond the call of duty in getting things done) leading the charge. Alloting at least a couple of months for BC 2.0 is only realistic. I have full time work starting May 1st that will go on till September. (7-4pm, 5 days a week)

Needless to say our experience with 1.0 has taught us a few lessons about setting dates and times, especially when this is a hobby. If anything I shouldn't even put a rough projection on a theoretical future project.

Hi Miraj, I did not post the comment to ridicule your statement nor was i asking for explanation, I hope you understand as I am an admirer of this mod.
Its just, it feels abit long with the knowledge most work is done with 1.0
and as you say "1.0 has taught us a few lessons".
I myself can do months playing one campaign, so take it light.
Maybe I was hoping you and mostly the team allready had started 2.0 long time ago, last time i even saw a screenshot of the new extended map.

Anyway keep up the nice hobby.

Well, the Fourth Crusade shows up at Constantinople, which is essentially what Venice represented in the Kingdoms Crusades campaign. So while you don't get to fight "Venice", you will have to defend from the Fourth Crusade.

They put up quite a fight too...two full stacks of knights and sergeants, which outclass most of the stuff you can throw at them as Byzantium. I played an Eastern Roman campaign recently, and I garrisoned Constantinople with a pretty nice stack of Varangians, Rus mercenaries, and various swordsmen/spearmen...I sallied, and it was probably one of the most fun battles I've ever fought. The Crusaders were well-balanced, and I'm confident the only reason I won is because I was able to anchor my line against the city walls and therefore couldn't be flanked.

spoken like someone who has never modded... you'd be amazed at how much time this stuff takes... just balancing a new unit can take a week. Creating and balancing 3 or 4 new factions is an immense task...

Well, how about that... This mod actually is AMAZING. Totally unlike any other mod I've experienced on TW. They could of released this instead of MTW2 and I'd of been happy.

I've started playing as the Georgians, but when I play ERE I'll just do some roleplaying and pretend that the Emperor finds war with the east far more vital to security and open to rich conquest more than sticking his head out into a chaotic Europe.

Probably will wait until 1.1 to really play with them though, since I'd really need that Russian faction up north to form a close alliance with.

Excellent news indeed about 2.0. Only one question, will there be exspansion on the west in BC 2.0?
Why we dig up the past? To understand it.

Yea the map expands in all four directions, it includes Greece and the Balkans in the west... Miraj has posted the map and it's been reproduced everywhere...

Maaaaaaaan, the Byzantine units are so beautiful. I'm going to have to wait for the next update that adds to Kievans to play them though, since I want to have a /truly/ epic campaign with them, and don't want to have to start over. I'm leaning now towards the Armenians.

I think it was pretty funny that the Makurian's had such crappy units, but they had some the COOLEST looking two handed swordsmen. Almost made me want to pick them!
