SS 6.0 Installer won't open!

Hi there,

I'm running a Dell XPS M1530 laptop with Windows Vista 32-bit and I've downloaded the SS files but they won't open so I can't install 6.0. I've installed 5.1 before with no problems, so I don't know why this would occur.

Can anyone help me out?

Perhaps try turning off any anti-virus programs running the background. Some people have reported their AV programs preventing the installer from running because they are erroneously reporting a virus in them. (dont worry they're perfectly safe).

That doesnt make sense. Norton and McAfee havent done that with me.

I think either the installer is corrupt or perhaps UAC is being problematic.

I think it is mainly AVG that is the problem.

Ah, I'm running AVG and Trend Micro, I'll disable them and give it a shot.

Thats your problem, are you running two anti virus scanners?

If so delete one, because they conflict with each other and could crash a system.

I tested this theory once, and it is real, they fight like two angry dogs against each other.

Sweet, its opening now. Disabling AVG and TM at startup and a restart fixed that issue for me. I'm installing SS as I post. Thanks a lot guys!

Btw, I've never had any problems running multiple antivirus programs. I've been running AVG and TM since I first got this computer and its been months without a single issue.

try using Norton + something else

U will see how norton behave , he is very very controlling alone , if he is with another anti virus ur pc its as good as dead

I stay away from norton. Trend Micro came with my lappy and it seems to work alright, and AVG is generally good at what it does so I use that for extra security.

As I said, I have tried running two anti virus progs together, and it not only greatly slows the comp, but it is like having no protection at all. Some people think that what one engine cant catch another will.

But when two are fighting it is no protection at all really.

Just a suggestion, maybe you should try to get rid of one of them.

Never run two AV's at once. Ever. I've seen so many people do that, and it's such a mistake. Just because you've "done it for a couple months and had no problems" doesn't mean you didn't just get lucky. Or don't realize you actually have a problem.
