    Default Low Countries TW

I'm working -and learning how to do it- on a map of the low countries now, as I didnt see one when I searched the forums.

The regions map is nearly finished. Of course it is as historically correct as I can (about as far as you can get without putting all the german rhine counties in, and using a map of around 1000 while making regions of 14th century -does only matter for holland though-)

When the first part is ready I´ll post, maybe someone gets ideas for factions or suchlike .

Can someone perhaps point out to me a tutorial or something like that (maybe even a legenda of the colors) for the heights map and other .tga's that I have to edit?

The bordertowns on the map are approximately Paris-Mainz-Hamburg (maybe I put some of england in, not sure)

    Thanks,

    EE

One day of work to go, and then the regions map has been finished, about 1500x1000 pix so I can resize it or take parts from it

There is a subsection here on these forums with a mapping class. There you will find three tutorials by GrnEyedDvl which can help you out. They taught me how to map so I can recommend them.

Thanks, I nearly finished my first lesson :p, but then on a 1500x1500 map so it was a hell of a job to make regions and trace the waterside. (remember holland, denmark and england; as well as my idea to add the main rivers as sea so I can add ports and traderoutes)

I made it that large so I could take out area's if I wanted a specific game (like the Flemish against the French, or the rhineduchies)

I have been working on a similar mod but I've put it on hold to work for The Frontier. I called it: "Lowlands Total War".

    A possible faction list:
    1 County of Holland
    2 Duchy of Guelders
    3 County of Flanders
    4 Lordship of West-Frisia
    5 Prince-Bishopric of Utrecht
    6 County of Artois
    7 County of Hainaut
    8 County of Namur
    9 County of Zeeland
    10 Duchy of Brabant
    11 Duchy of Limburg
    12 Duchy of Luxembourg
    13 Lordship of Drenthe
    14 Lordship of Groningen
    15 Lordship of Mechelen
    16 Lordship of Overijssel
    17 Prince-Bishopric of Liège
    18 France
    19 England
    20 Holy Roman Empire

The first seventeen are based on "The Seventeen Provinces". France, England and the HRE could be divided into smaller factions/states/fiefs, some examples: Munster, Cologne, Cleves, Trier.

These coats of arms are available on wikipedia in a bigger size:

I'm still working on a bit larger scale, and I have no idea what should be specific for those factions.... But of course I'll post everything when I finish things.

I think my map is so large that you can use parts of it without having to zoom, the only work should be redefining the regions within the regions I made.

I removed some that I thought are to late or unimportant, have to think yet of other factions (in france and england and HRE)

1500x1500?? That's insanely large! The size of the map of my mod is 283x491 so that makes it 16 times smaller than yours yet I find it already a lot of work to fill all that landmass with features, trees, heights, etc. I hope you know what you're doing.

I know what I'm doing yes, an insane lot of work indeed. But maybe someone can use it and you can take parts of it to play. Just like I said, map_regions.tga is 80-90% completion, the map_heights has already been traced along the coast and blackened out, so in a day or two I can move to the real height and climate parts

My aim was as you may have read, to create a map in the first place, and when I do something, I like to do it good .

This way I slowly learn how to work, and I have to put a lot of time in it, but it pays me, at least with a happy feeling

EDIT: Did I already mention that I was crazy?

You will have to work on it yourself for a real mod I think, I dont have the intention (yet?) to make faction rosters for them. Of course I will keep going

For the Germans here, I cover approximately also at least half of present germany >_>

I got a map for a campaign like this if you want. I'm not able to mod units myself sadly.
