Captured Eagles

I've noticed that many factions now have eagles topping their elite units. Iberian heavy infantry, Carthaginian Sacred Band, and so on.

As Carthage, I destroyed two of these elite units while fighting the Iberians. And in diplomacy, I've had no opportunity to use the eagles as leverage. Is this WAD?

Does the aquila really only matter on the field, or does it still work as it does in vanilla RTW?

The way I've seen it is that you can get the "Eagle Taker" & their various other traits for the general that destroys a First Cohort, a non-roman general. Haven't seen it happen for the Romans destroying other elites with the eagle on the banner.

Interesting. The Eagle Taker trait and the message about capturing one popped up, but only when I destroyed a Roman army (still playing at Carthage) outside Agrigento. So I guess that answers that. Thanks Lou.

and if you destroy 2 legions your general would gain the trait "two eagles". I have one general with this trait and a couple with "eagle taker".

There is even more advanced trait - "eagle collector" if I remember correctly. I had one general who won 8 heroic victories against romans and died during the last battle accidentally. He was truely great general.. and had that trait.

Only Romans have the Eagle. For other factions the Eagle (as it appears on the battlefield) is essentially a proxy for a morale boosting unit. Therefore their destruction doesn't actually get you an Eagle.
