black screen

when i play med 2 in winXp SP2 i got a problem
when i try to play game suddenly i got my monitor full with black colorwhat's wrong with it but after about 5 second waiting i got my monitor restore just like normal med 2 then after about 5 minute playing suddenly my monitor full with black color (there is no image ,just a black color)
can anyone tell me whats wrong with it ?

video card :ATI RADEON HD 2600 XT GDDR 4 256 MB
Ram : 2048 mb
proccesor AMd athlon X2 dual core
motherboard ASUS m2a-VM-HDMI
Monotor Benq 17 inches FP71G+

i got a same problem when playing The Sims 2 but ths time not restore

Clean out the dust and crud, make sure all your fans work right, make sure you have enough air flow over your cpu and chipset and video card, and put a small fan up againt the open side of your case to see if the temperature drops. There maybe a part or parts dying including your cpu, video card or even a fan. Process of elimination. Good luck.

Edit: one time I didn't have my monitor cable plugged all the way in my video and it did this, also.

i have do yaur advice by cleaninf the fan ,etc but still doesnt work

Do you have another monitor you could try? Do you have another video card you could try? What happens when you put the game on the lowest settings?

no i don't have any monitor or graphic card i have set the setting to lowest setting but stil the same

Well your card is good, download the latest ATI drivers and download Microsoft .NET framework 3.5. Then post back, after playing Total War and The Sims.

Also, if you have on board video, take out your ATI card and plug it in the on board video and see if you get a different result. Best to do it with Sims2 since onboard will not work with Total War.

Acouple of things. It points to your graphics card because of the way it goes black and ATI has in its control a restore feature in case the card can't handle the load. I would say if you bought the card recently, contact ATI.

i bought the video card about 5 month ago
I got the error in the sims , med 2 , call of duy 4 ,aggresion reigh over europe 1914 i ply all the game in error situation for 5 moth !!!!!!!!!
but i have send e-mail to ati but i got no reply

i don't need to download my ati radeon display driver because my display driver is the latest display driver 8.401 and for the net frame work downloading now

irishorn i have try use the microsoft .NET 3.5 and the latest ATI DISPLAY DIRIVER ,CATALYST CONTROL ,HYDRAVISION ,DIRECTX 9.oc and cleaning my fan but still doesn't
work
and also getting worse !! this time i didn't get just only the black screen but also the red and blue colour in my monitor ! but this time ame still running and the monitor is also turn on (in same case my monitor shut down by itself but my CPU still turn on and working)
