    Default How to Bribe???

Hello, I'd really like some help on this one.

I bribed a Macedonian army (no general) earlier today, it was my first bribe. After I closed the deal (bought the army) they simply disappeared off the map! I don't know what happened to them, so if anyone can help me out it would be great!

If you bribe an army you will get a screen saying which characters will join your faction, how many units will join your faction and how many units will disperse.
You can only control bribed generals and bribed units that you can train yourself. All units in the bribed army that you can't train will disperse and be added to the population of the province they are in.
The use is that you can assimilate units that you can retrain, and eliminate dangerous units if you have no army present.
Bribing is also usefull for getting rid of money when you have too much.

If you're gonna hire Machete to kill the bad guy, you better make damn sure the bad guy isn't YOU!

Actually this is more useful than you think. Why?

    1. it gets rid an enemy army without you having going through the pain actually fighting it (especially useful if the army in question is huge and is about to strike).

    2. as Selifator pointed out, to reduce the amount of money you have if too much of it...

    3. if you bribe an army in a city and the army dissapears, you can keep the city (but better reinforce it ASAP if you don't want it to "flip" back to it's previous owner or have a rebellion).

    4. if you are short of family members, bribing generals is a useful solution to your problem. I especially recommend bribing generals that have a decent command or management rating (or even both) - even though it might be a bit more expensive than bribing a corrupt epicurean, it's worth the price.

However before you do these actions you must remember one very important thing: make sure you have a ton of denarii.

    I hope this helps...

The answer is simple. You can only keep bribed units if their type is available to you anyway. If it is an unavailable troop type, they just dissolve.

For example: Macedonian Phalangists are not available to Romans, so if a Roman bribes a Macedonian army they will dissolve. But if a Seleucid bribes a macedonian Army, he gets these units (because the Seleucids can recruit Phalangists too).

So if you bribe a Macedonian Army as a Roman player, you probably only get Peasant units from this army (if they ARE present in the army), otherwise the army just dissolves.

Generals are available to all factions, so you get them anyway after bribing.

By the way, when you offer bribe to an army, a list appears in the center window (your offer) which units will dissolve and which will join your side.

There is a "bribery mod" that allows the bribed army to become your mercenaries, which makes sense. I personally haven't tried it yet, because I'm on v1.5 vanillia and this mod was for 1.2.

In terms of bribery strategy for me at least, it's best to bride those armies that you are somewhat weak against. If I am greek and facing armenia horse archers in open battle, chances are that I'm going to have some big problem. That's actually what happened to me, so I decided to bribe the army away with my high-income greek treasury and slowly waste away the enemy. A typical half-stack of low-medium tier units on H/H cost me about 20K to bribe away.
