    Default Slow Campaign Map

As the title suggests my Campaign map is slowing to a crawl. Do you have any suggestions of how to combat this situation? I was thinking of windows mode but I do not know how to do it with MTW2.

My situation is that any game I start will work fine for about 5 minutes. I will have good scroll speed and quick unit responses, but after about 5 minutes the game will move at a snails pace and its really unbearable.

Any tips you can offer would be most appreciated

I noticed this as well. It happens because of the relatively insane amount of tree cover in northeastern Europe on the map. Your best option is to go into your video settings and turn "Campaign Shadows" off

Eh, change your resolution to the lowest one just for the campaign map, turn the campaign shadows off...Can't think of anyhing else that might help.

well for me, after awhile of play when i have a unit selected, whether it be a diplomat, merchant, military etc, and then move around the map with the selected it lags for me..

for example: if i select my diplomat in innsbruck, then move away from him say half way across the map to say egypt while hes selected, it moves rediculously slow..

its a weird bug, just dont move too far away from your selected units and out of its sight or it gets choppy

hope that helps some.. it did for me after i realized what was going on

Nothing really helps me though, it doesn't matter what I do, the campaign runs perfectly fine, but when I end the turn, it takes almost a minute and a half to start my turn again....

Do you guys get that too?

ive always had this problem, no matter what mod, half way through the campaign it takes longer for computers to take their turns..

i think this is because the more advanced a faction becomes, the more moves the cpu is making for each faction, so it takes longer..

    no biggie..

Yea, but it's really annoying if you're playing for a faction like Genoa, which has 3 cities, and you never feel like expanding, just testing the mod so to say.

And it takes me less than a minute to manage those cities, but takes twice as long to finish the turn....

2 gigs here, and I still have like half a gig left while the game is running. Doesn't help much, at least doesn't look like it does for me.

I don't get it...I can run the battles with thousands of men on all high settings, but campaign....

Hmm I must say that I am a bit surprised to read that yelow: I only have 1GB of DDR RAM, and my campaign is fine..

Running on a EN8600 GT TOP, 1900MHz processor...

I do agree that the campaign has slowed down a little, but for me it is not that bad, maybe like 5 seconds longer turn shifts.

yep the ai takes forever to take it turn
"we're way way pre-alpha and what that means is there is loads of features not just in terms of the graphics but also in terms of the combat and animations that actually aren't in the game yet.So the final game is actually gonna look way way better than this!” - James Russell, CA
Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...

I hope this isn't seen as rude.. but I have a quad processor, 4 gigs of ram, 8800 gts 512.. and the game runs flawlessly. What I'm getting at, is that it is your specs. To the people saying "but I have 2 gigs of ram", etc.. it really has nothing to do with that. Your CPU architecture and speed as well as Video card chipsets have everything to do with it, however.

If you know what you're doing and feel comfortable around computers and can follow some instructions you could try OC'ing your CPU and/or GPU for a bit more performance. Of course, this'll only help if you just barely aren't meeting the games needs.

Also, make sure you don't have anti-virus programs and general crap like that running in the background. Get enough programs going at once, and it might not even matter what your specs are.

Hope this little rant helps someone.

    I hate you

Judging from what Chimaeira said, its the video card that is the bottleneck in these situations. I have 2x as much RAM as him, similar CPU, but he has a better graphics card (mine is only a 7900GS) and I am getting some slowdown on the campaign map.

I've noticed that the campaign map scrolls slower, and the turn cycles take about 50% longer.

Campaign map can be fixed by lowering video settings, and I am willing to live with the slower turn cycles as long as the AI is smarter.

how much better is the 8800GTS 512 over what Iam running and thats a 8600GTS OC 256. I cant upgrade anymore, just the video card, already have 4 gigs of ram and a quad core 2.4GHz

Im thinking of geting the 9800 series, what do you think?

For me, the turns don't take much time, but the campaign map scrolls very slowly (it got better after turning shadows off though).

And I have a 2.4ghz dualcore processor (Medieval isn't optimized for dualcore though, is it?) and 3gb RAM.
