Is there anyway to make normal factions in vanilla- say the turks- like hordes? This would involve them to continue to exist without having a single settlement to their name.

change horde unit to what ever. Names are in EDU.Code:triumph_value 5 custom_battle_availability yes horde_min_units 10 horde_max_units 20 horde_max_units_reduction_every_horde 10 horde_unit_per_settlement_population 250 horde_min_named_characters 2 horde_max_percent_army_stack 80 horde_disband_percent_on_settlement_capture 0 horde_unit Mongol Infantry horde_unit Mongol Foot Archers horde_unit Mongol Heavy Archers horde_unit Mongol Heavy Lancers horde_unit Mongol Light Lancers horde_unit Mongol Horse Archers
I'm new to modding so can you please tell me what the EDU is and what file did you quote the stuff about mongols from?
Moved to Text Editing and Scripting.
EDU stands for export_descr_unit.txt.
you need to unpack em. need patch 1.1 or latest. make a new .cmd file inside \tools\unpacker. paste this after you right-click edit.
close, save, double-click press y three times to unpack EDU. then right-click edit again and replace boldCode:unpacker --source="..\..\packs\*.pack" --destination=..\..\ --filter=export_descr_unit.txtwithCode:unpacker --source="..\..\packs\*.pack" --destination=..\..\ --filter=export_descr_unit.txt
you'll find both .txt in data folderCode:unpacker --source="..\..\packs\*.pack" --destination=..\..\ --filter=descr_sm_factions.txt
yeah. just change the horde_unit name. one horde_unit line is an army and horde_min_units 10 and horde_max_units 20 determines how many unit cards in each army. You off course should change the names and numbers and test it yourself. A form of reverse engeneering is how I learn most of the stuff after I understand what the values mean.
Thanks broAlso, do I need to repack the descr_sm file or can I just make the additions in the text file and save it?
no you leave it in the data folder. Theres no repacking. You need to add this to the .cfg located in the medieval main folder, at the end of the file so that the game reads takes the un-packed files.
Code:[io] file_first = 1
Will this take effect in my current saved game or do I have to start a new game?
Pretty sure you have to start a new campaign
