    that is possible seems you have only create one new region tracking down a text error should not be to much of a problem but normally the error log would catch this, by the looks of it if you have create a new region there does not seem to be a city on that island.

    question regarding this tutorial if i'm not using the kingdoms patch where does the heights.hgt file generate? i cannot find it, would this stop my map from loading up?

    This file is not required for the map generation. Your map will load without it.

    I need your help. I'm trying to create some islands in the Atlantic, but every time I try to start a campaign after modding the files, the game "crashes" - goes to the main menu again.

    The island I'm trying to create is easily noticed, near the coast of Marrocco. The map files are in the attached rar, please have a look.

    The system.log just says that the game can't create London (which is the very first city in the descr_strat settlement list) in the specified tile. If I use the default files of the mod, the game loads file, no problem with London or any other city.

    Btw, I've used Paint.net. I don't think it was the problem, since it has all the required tools.

    So, can you help me with this?
    Tis but a scratch.

    It appears the coastline of your map_regions does not match the one in map_heights. That will cause ports to be placed in invalid positions, causing your error message.

    It appears the map_regions coastline is misplaced by one pixel down and one pixel right.

    You can easily check that by indexing map_heights and then reducing it to the size of your map_regions. Name it map_heights_small and overlay it with map_regions and you will see the margin.

    ok, ive attempted this multiple times, first wit vanilla then wit my own MyMod thing. but i keep having trouble here is the last failed attempt from script log at starting a new campaign after using this tutorial. any help would be incredibly welcomed. thank you.

    Download the map_heights.zip from the Attachments, unzip it into your mod (Vanilla version) and delete map_heights.hgt and map.rwm. That should solve the problem.

    These two errors go together:

    could not create settlement at script line 1064.
    You have got a building (port) in the descr_strat, but you have not got a valid (or none) port in your map_regions file.
    Remove the building in descr_strat or add the port in the map_regions file.

    If you are working with the 'vanilla' map then I guess it is the port of Ragusa. The pixel of the port needs to be moved one pixel down.

    The problem at hand stems from vanilla: even if you simply delete the map.rwm file in vanilla without changing anything you will get this error. This is due to the fact that someone at CA changed the map_regions file after generating that map.rwm file.

    That error was in line 1064. You fixed it and now you have a new error in line 1079. Noticed the different line numbers? That's what the log is for: it points you in the direction of the error.
    Open the mentioned descr_strat file with notepad. Press Ctrl+G (make sure wordwrap is not ticked, else it won't work) and enter that line number. Check which region it is. Disable the port building like this:

    Each of the four lines has a semicolon in front to prevent the game from reading the entry. Now start your game and have a look again. If the error is fixed, try shifting the port on the map_regions graphic file.

    this is MyMod that i made all these regions for. these are my 3 files, the ones used in making landmass. unfortunately, wenever i make some land, m2tw keeps crashing to my desktop, and saying unspecified error reporting in my errorlog thingy.

    These maps don't help much: map_heights or map_ground_types will not cause a crash unless they are the wrong size, and that would be in the log. Map_regions is in jpg format which 'smudges' the colors and does not allow to see if there are errors. On its own it is difficult to see errors there.
    Possibilities with map_regions: a stray pixel with a color that is neither sea nor listed in descr_regions. The count of regions plus sea exceeds 200.
    Other possibilities: error in drawing rivers in map_features.

    1. Please specify what you mean by 'making land'
    2. does the map work before making those changes?

    Have you tried to create the landmass and use the color of an existing region (without new town and port obviously). That way you can be sure if the error is with the map_regions file. Have you counted the existing regions? It sure looks as if you might have too many.
    Upload the working descr_regions file and we can have a look.
