Default Damn Makedonians! Those aren't Makedonians, their Greeks!

    I play Imp II.

This isn't so much about technical issues as that of theory. In this mod Makedonian has been neutered and they get crushed relatively quickly. Instead of the Pelopponeses/Europe suffering the Black Death(Makedonia) it suffers the Yellow Fever(Greece).

I guess I want to ask is AI Thrace, Sarmatia, Illyria, Germania and Gaul really that weak that they can't beat Greece or Makedonia?

I understand that the Pelopponeses is a rich area. Does it "have" to be? Would taking away some of their resources(i.e. getting rid of mines or reducing farm output, etc) help control whichever faction takes those areas?

In one of my recent campaigns Greece had reached the English Channel, had completely taken over Cisalpine Gaul and killed: Makedonia, Sarmatia and Germania

I don't care that much to make the changes myself (I know I can beat Greece) I'm just curious as to exactly why it's always one of those factions.

Again, I'm not really interested in making any modifications myself so I don't care about tricks/cheats to weaken Greece. I'm just curious as to what makes them so strong compared to other factions.

Wait until 3.3 ExRM comes out, if you're interested in having a more realistic Greek economy.

In my opinion it's a case of the mines, central sea trade position and developed ports, general position for expansion (in the AIs mind: up up up) and the strength of the phalanx (for Macedon) and hoplite troops (for Greece) in autoresolve.
See the successor campaign to TIC!

So Sarmatia et al, are just weak.

I've seen Greece and (once) Thrace take the dominant position in Greece. In both cases, they became superpowers, as you'd expect.

Fighting stacks of Bastarnae with 2 HP was interesting, to say the least.

In mine they have signed an alliance with the Macedons and they are pushing back the Illyrians togather. Also they lose all their Sicilian and Italian cities: i've conquered them all.

I've never seen the Greeks stopped by anyone.

But on a side note I did see something peculiar: the Seleucids were destroyed as a faction---I was amazed!

In my current campaign between 250-240 I marched an army across Europe and pushed Greece back down below those mts.(north of Pella) restoring Thrace which was down to one city(taken from Germans) and also strengthening Epirus(sp) in the southern Balkans; I also caused civil revolts(took the city and let them turn into Roman rebels) in two Greek cities along the coast of the Aegean Sea that had both mines and timber reserves.

That seemed to work. When I returned 20yrs later there was more diversity. Greece pretty much remained checked(I think they started going east because I saw a couple of msgs about Greece/Pontus going to war)...

Soon after that Germania started eating up Thrace from the north...

Much more interesting than fighting Greeks all over the world.
