    I am looking for a mod that adds lots of new units, buildings, factions, animations/graphics, a much better AI, and some new features that DO NOT affect the overall gameplay too much.
    I played DLV and SS but both of them affect the overall gameplay a lot with new econmic systems, but they both add new units and factions that I want.

    Hey guys!!
    I have played Medieval 2 in the past, but only now i discovered just how many amazing mods exist.. To tell the truth, i am so confused...

    What i'm looking for is:
    -longer and more difficult campaign
    -(really) improved campaign and battle AI
    -new units, factions, formations etc..
    -extended, interesting gameplay features (i don't mind if they alter the overall gameplay too much; actually i like that!!)
    -better graphics/skins/textures etc..
    -just anything else that can improve the game!

    is there any mod (or perhaps some mini mods) that offer those things, or am i asking for way too much..?

    Stainless Steel, as said, somehow fits those requirements. Download Stainless Steel parts 1 and 2, then the 6.1 patch.
    But as I mentioned it's not perfect and downloading a few submods is more than recommendable.
    If you want to enjoy your game then get at least these mods:

    Eye candy and so on:
    Very huge unit sizes & Unique unit speeds 1.0 - it's my very first mod and I want people to test it (but it's still very good) and it includes Better (Battlemap) Grass 1.0 (true eye candy)
    Smoother battle maps
    New Castles Strat Models - meant for "Vanilla" M2TW but works with SS as well
    New Cities Strat Models - same as above

    AI:
    Either ReallyBadAI or Improved Battle AI

    Additionally, if you like challenge in your game, you may test RealRecruitment/RealCombat - notice that you aren't allowed to install RealRecruitment and Byg's Grim Reality during the installation; the installer will ask you but don't allow it.

    Question.. ReallyBadAI needs patch 1.5?? Is there such a patch? I thought it went till 1.3.. =S

    Welcome to Stainless Steel...
    Stainless Steel works with Kingdoms patch 1.4, and if you're going to use ReallyBadAI you just need SS version 6.1.
    By the way, if you don't have Medieval II: Total War Gold Edition or Kingdoms Expansion to play Stainless Steel. If you don't have it, go to nearest market and buy one. They're very cheap nowadays.

    Yeah, most mods use Vanilla textures. Reskinning all (even sword) units would be a huge pain in... there.

    I believe i have downloaded the 6.2 ss patch.. Is it not good...?

    You need to download SS6.0, then SS6.1, and then SS6.2 They have to be installed in consecutive order.

    Hmm... I'm quite sure they do. At least everything except my mod, and I believe it works with 6.2 as well.
    I have to check 6.2 thread if there's something which may cause a crash when my mod is installed.

    Ok downloaded everything!! I will finally put those awesome mods to play!!!

    E: Can i ask one last question, if i am not tiring u...?
    I noticed there is no Kingdom of Leon & Castilles in SS custom battles...? Is something wrong with my downloads or its the way its supposed to be?

    There is a hard coded limit to how many factions can be made usable for custom battles 22 i think but campaign can have up to 31 factions (including rebel) that is the hard coded limit (that one is for sure the custom one might be 21 or 23 cant rememebr but it something like that

    That's good to know.. I guess i will remove a faction from Custom Battles, in order to pinch in the Kingdom of Leon & Castille..!

    These all should be asked in Stainless Steel forum, but I can help.

    Open your Stainless Steel folder, then "data". There's a text file called "descr_sm_factions". You see this:
    custom_battle_availability yes
    This tells if the faction is available in Custom battles. You simply must turn Spain's "no" to "yes" and disable some other faction in the same way.
