Yes kids, it's time for another fun topic which will inevitably devolve into people listing two movies and leaving the thread, never to return.

So I ask: can you explain why said movies were less crappy than you had anticipated?

    Less than three, Kubelwagen

    ----------------
A few off the top of my head:

    Doomsday
Well I was expecting this movie to suck. Tribal tattoos, ripped storylines, and crappy lighting. Boy was I wrong. This movie rocked my face off. It was as stupid and nonsensical as I had assumed, but it was stupid is such a cool way, I didn't care. Who doesn't want to see a car chase with cars with skulls and spikes on them with punk rockers trying to kill everyone? yeah!

    Scary Movie 4
Yeah, yeah, so it basically ripped the best parts from SM3 and threw them in here. I still can't help but like this movie. It was stupid and pointless but there are worse ways to spend an hour and a half.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
I forget how old I was when this came out, but I was at the stage where I thought movies had to be R to be cool. When I heard it was PG-13, I was sad. But I saw it with a few friends and it was cool. Pity about the sequels...

    Snakes on a Plane
I expected the terrible combination of Samuel L. Jackson, some "snakes on crack," and some mindless gore all loaded onto an airplane, and that's exactly what it was. Yet somehow it managed to be rather entertaining.

The Pacifier. Some 'Kindergarden Cop' remake thing with (Vin Desil? - the guy from Pitch Black..).
But I was quite drunk, and in good company...

    Atonement.

Still haven't decided if I liked it or not. It was like splicing a Jane Austen novel gone wrong with a WW2 movie.

Flight of the Living Dead which actually turned out to be an amusing horror flick despite the horrible pun title.

The Fountain was a plesant surprise. More visually/emotionally contemplative.

    i highly agree

as for me, 'Debbie does Dallas' was also a pleasant surprise; i initially thought it'd be a cop show like 'the dukes of hazzard'

Scary Movie - Not even close to the quality of the originals but enjoyable enough

Epic Movie - I don't think it deserves as much stick as it gets. Sure it makes no sense but 'Captain Jack Swallows' had me laughing for days

The King and I - I hate musicals with a passion but I found Yul utterly charming. Shame about the singing though

I found Borat quite funny expecting it to be one of the worst films I'd ever see.

That's all I can think of.

Trainspotting, I thought it was going to be about old grannies watching trains Turned out to be probably my fourth favourite film of all time.

The Chronicles of Riddick - I enjoyed Pitch Black for a simple sci-fi/?horror? type of movie and liked the Riddick character. When I heard of C.o.R. I thought it'd be some crappy 'epic' story but it turned out to be an interesting 'epic' story altough a bit unsatisfying and predictable.

John Rambo - I figured this would be a little too over-the-top (like 300 but without the cool stabbing) but I actually enjoyed it. The background story clashing of the pacifists and Rambo's warlike ways, and how he always comes outta nowhere and ing owns gave me all the entertainment I need in a movie

    300. Ended up laughing my head off through the entire movie at how inaccurate the entire thing was.

Not more about the innacurracies...for crying out loud it's based off a comic book that frank miller say's he made for cool action scenes, not bloody historical accuracy.

I knew that long before the movie was made.

    I laughed anyway.

Forbidden Kingdom, what a let down. I forgot how difficult Jackie Chan is to understand when he speaks English.
