Hearts of Iron Doomsday is a stand-alone expansion, it works without Hearts of Iron, basically its Hearts of Iron 2 with extra stuff added in.

A good starting country would be America, safe from direct conflicts for a while and you get to go through reforms and such...

But you also have to learn about using a navy though. I heard Germany, Poland, and the Soviet Union are good starter nations because all their land is on one continental landmass.

You can only get mutli-player on DD or Armageddeon. No-one plays the HoI2 multi-player

It is worth getting, but it takes a long time to get used to.
Paradoxian.org is a wiki for it, helps a lot.

Some of the cool features they added to Arma are quite useful in the main game. I reckon you should get HOI Anthology, its pretty cheap. If someone tries to sell you either HOI2, Doomsday, Arma or Anthology for more than £15 pound, punch them in the face.

Well then does anyone know why HOI2 wont work on my laptop. I start the game it works fine, start menu comes up i select my country press start and then it crashes. No error message, windows just says it must close. IT IS PISSING ME OFF.

I think you're gonna get better and more specific answers (as well as posted fixes) on the paradox forums for HOI2. You may have to register your game to see the tech help section. Those guys are pretty good and have a few years experience handling things with HOI2.

That is not to say you cant get help here too. Obviously your laptop specs are above the minimum etc? Installed the patches and all that?
