    Default General Models

It has been asked before I'm sure, but it has been a while since i have been active on these forums.

I am wondering if it is possible to have different models and textures for generals within the same faction? Any details on this would be much appreciated.

Using the Alexander exec you can have ''Unique'' characters (ie; Alexander), which would have their own models ect, as far as I know you can't do this with Bi or RTW..

    Unless someone knows different..

I don`t think it is possible in RTW or BI. The generals are just DMB entries and their DMB entry title is mentioned in descr_character. The game loads the texture based on their faction ownership from descr_character. So it will only load the texture that has the right faction ownership next to it. And I don`t think you can make more than one entry for each of the two generals(family member and captain) in descr_character.
You can`t do the trick with the merc texture and mercenary_unit attribute in EDU that you can with regular units simple because these don`t have an EDU entry.

it is possible in rtw or bi...

for instance, in the EDU you find lines like this [in blue]:

    soldier roman_legionary_cohort_i, 60, 0, 1.3
    officer roman_standard

you can replace e.g. roman_general with

    soldier roman_legio_XIII_Gemina, 60, 0, 1.3
    officer LEGIO_XIII_STANDARD

where the legio 13 standard is a new model ~ which can be anything.

hence any unit can have any set of generals or standards attributed to them in the EDB.

if that is what you were looking for?

What you say means giving units an officer that looks like a general. While this can be done for both mounted and unmounted units it can`t be done to elephant units and chariots iirc. And the other major issue is that you`ll still have the true general present which for the bodyguard unit at least would mean two "generals".

And the officer/general wouldn't have the effects a true general has on troop moral, nor would he make speeches (not always a bad thing, though the one where he tells how his ''mother insisted he came'' is always funny)..

    Aesthetically it's a work-round but only aesthetically ..

i put my description where the generals go near the top of the page in the DMB they have all the same skeletons so i presume they use them the same. hmm i’ll await a crash lols.

i didn’t know generals had any effect, where is the text for that effect? or are you refering to alex.

They raise moral to nearby units and the unit they are attached to is always "glad to have the general in the unit" and they give bonuses to their armies depending on their qualities. They can also stop the routing units under certain circumstances. All of this can`t be edited afaik, being in the hardcoded domain.

i thought all of that belonged to the entire general unit i.e. body guard, rather than the general itself.

oh, was zhuge asking if he could have two different bodyguards? that would be a no.

When you move a general near a unit in battle the unit's ''spirits are raised'' can't recall the exact quote..Not sure where that text is..

No, I was asking about the models used for the generals, and with regards to this you have all confirmed what i suspected in the first place.

    Thanks anyway
