    Default Should I buy HoI2?

Well, I've never played a Paradox game before. I really want to play something during WW2, but I heard that HoI2 was extremely difficult to play.

What are your opinions? Is it worth buying HoI2? Or should I go with something different?

    Thanks

It is not difficult at all, the only difficulty in learning the game comes from the interface that isnt very user-friendly (for n00bs) , however once your brain gets associated to the graphical meanings, it's quite easy to manage.

See if you can find a HoI2 demo somewhere and play it first. If you enjoy it, then buy the full version.

It is a top flight grand strategy game, especially in terms of combat. Wonderful game, wonderful capture of the WW2 situation, and the aftermath. I just adore it.

Do try the demo though. It isn't some people's cup of tea. I wasn't estatic about the HOI2 demo, but I liked it... and then I got to the whole game. Try to find the Doomsday demo. It offers the whole game for a certain period of time. I think around 3 hours or so. Instead of just one senario where you can't control alot of things, like IC or anything except battle, you get the whole game. That is what hooked me.

First time I played HoI2 I was so lost. Put it down, lost it, found it, gave it a go, finally understood it a month later.

    Loved it ever since.

I say buy it. I picked it up for £10 brand new and got a huge map and medal which i wear when i play it (i dont have a girlfirend to tell me thats an epic fail thing to do). It has good mods for it too such as CORE and Modern Day Scenario. It can be complicated but you'll learn to love it. Panzers man, Panzers.

The game was extremely boring the first couple of times I played it. After you're about 10 hours into it, it starts getting really interesting.

PS: the first time you play, do not pick Canada or some other small country. They're easier than Russia, for example, but they're also insanely boring. I would Germany or Britain or something, even though they are harder to play. U.S.A. is also extremely boring, at least in the 1936 scenario.

The 1936 scenario is boring for most countries. It's supposed to be that way so you can actually have a choice in how you want to lead a country into WW2.

Not really, Italy is fun in 1936 scenario.

1936 - Ethiopia War, prepare Spain campaign
    1937 - War of Spain
    1938 - prepare Balkan War
1939 - Balkan War, Italy vs whole Balkan + Turkey
    1940 - Balkan War
1941 - end of Balkan War, prepare the invasion of Germany
1942 - prepare the invasion of Germany
1943 - try to save Germany from their mess by invading them
1944 - try to save Germany
1945 - save Germany from their mess
1946 - prepare to crusade Arabia, Persia and Afghanistan
    1947 - crusade Infidels.

Edit: By the way, buy Anthology, forget about that Doomday!!!

An easy starting Scanerio that is action packed would be the Soviet Union in 1944, or Germany 1939, but 1936 is only action packed full of War if your Japan.

Also a fun thing to do as America is join the Axis and invade the Americas... lol

Or, on the other side of that war, China.

That must take some epic slider moves.

You can always use the "freedom" cheat by pressing F12 and typing it in, and then you can change them as much as possible, I always go for dictatorships lol, so much easier to manage partisans.....

Okay, thanks for all the replies guys, I dl'ed a Doomsday Demo and played it. And I gotta say, this game is really fast paced. I mean, I start and the comps start moving everything before I even start moving my first unit. Do you get used to this or something?

Other question, is this more of a war game? Or more diplomacy?

And final question, how in the world can you guys say once you get a bigger empire its easier? Then you have to watch all the borders....Seems like an impossible job to me.

Yeah... but that is cheating. If you are in SP and that is what you enjoy, I guess that is your choice, but I wouldn't do that.
