Free upkeep units

How come I never see these guys?

Playing Spain in the gunpowder age already, I have never found one single way to get them.

Missing from the building queue ? According to the export descr unit text these supposed to be available (Spain):

Crossbow Militia
Merchant Cavalry Militia
Swordsmen Militia
Town Militia
Spear Militia
Pike Militia

Cannot answer for vanilla, but if you look at the EDB you should find what building produces these units eg from SS

Swordsmen Militia comes from a militia_drill_square
Merchant Cavalry Militia comes from merchants_guild

etc

Hmmm...I have never played as Spain before. I know there are some units listed in the EDU that some factions do not get outside of custom battles. Armored Sergeants for England is just one example of this.

You can check the EDB and see if those units are there. I'm pretty sure at least some of them are.

Yes. I just checked in the descr_buildings text, there is no location requirement, beside I got half of Africa, the entire Spain and half of Europe under my control.
