Try this fix for CTD's & BSOD's
After a long time searching for a solution to my in-game crashes, I finally fixed it by disabling "Data Execution Prevention" in Windows XP sp2.
Now disabling this may leave you open to a trojan, etc, but if you have a good anti virus, firewall, etc, you should be fine. :hmmm:
This involves editing your boot.ini file, so if you're comfortable with this & you want to try the fix, right click "My Computer", click "Properties", then "Advanced". Near the bottom is "Start Up & Recovery", click the "Settings" button. At the top you'll see "System Startup" & under that "Default Operating System:", the box below should read something like this.............
"Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
Click the "Edit" button & your boot.ini file will open in Notepad. You need to change the "/noexecute=optin /" to "/noexecute=alwaysoff/".
When you've done this your boot.ini should read something like this.........
[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=alwaysoff /fastdetect
It might not be exactly the same but this will give you an idea of how it should be. Remember, ONLY change the "optin" section or your system may not boot.
Save the file & close all windows, reboot, run the game & see if it fixed your problem.
If it doesn't cure your IN GAME crashes, just repeat the steps & put "optin" back where "alwaysoff" is, then you're back to normal.
Let me know if this helps anyone.
