Yeah, the Germans are good in their infantry! Have you tried keeping your men in guard mode at the beginning of the battle?

If I am outnumbered by the enemy or I think they'll win due to superior infantry, I put my spearmen or good heavy infantry in the middle on guard mode. My best/most offensive infantry and cavalry I place on the wings. When the battle starts, hopefully your best guys and cavalry on the outside can best whomever they face on the flanks/wings, rout them, and then help out your guys in guard mode in the middle.

Placing your best guys or elites in the middle *might* work too, but if the enemy overcomes your weaker flanks, those troops will run and your guys in the middle will be surrounded so you got to be quick if you do it that way.

Well,I put my legionaries as a single line, archers behind them and when the battle starts, the enemy inf runs into my line and when they are fighting,I charge the enemy from the rear and the battle is won...
