M2TW plays better and smoother than RTW and RTW:BI. Why is that?

I unistalled RTW and BI a while ago and got M2TW and it played very nicely. Conquering half of europe as byzantium with no big drops in FPS. I just uninstalled M2TW and reinstalled RTW and BI. My problem is that I get really low FPS with RTW and BI and I only have 3-4 settlements, and the game has randomly crashed twice so far. Why does this happen? Doesn't M2TW need more resources than RTW? I don't remeber RTW or BI to be so slow.

the video settings matter, they have to be the same in both games to compare them in FPS

if your RTW campaign map lags alot try turning off campaign map shadows (this helps quite a bit)
