    Default CTD when starting game

    Whenever I start Medieval 2 total war, the game crashes and says "Medieval 2 Total War experienced an unspecified error and will now exit".. Strange because it did not happen before I installed Stainless Steel, happens if I load Stainless Steel 1.05 or if I load Regular Medieval 2 total war. Currently, I have patch V1.03. I don't know what to do... I think it's a data file in the Medieval 2 Total War directory error...:hmmm:.

    I'm not an expert on the technicalities of mtwII, but did you

    *try reinstalling the game and re-applying every patch one by one?
    *install the latest videocard drivers and windows updates?

    other possible questions;
    *do you have other games installed?
    *did your game ever play normally (without mods) before?

    it might be useful to try and figure out when the game stopped functioning. There's a possibility that your game got corrupted by installing a certain mod or combination of mods, or even by installing other games.

    If the game played normally before, try and look at other games/programs. If you have regular crashes with other software too, it might be a sign that it's time to reinstall windows as a whole.

    it might also be useful to post your system specs to try and figure out your problem.

    i hope you get this sorted out.

    regards

    There is a way to play the Mongols but I saw that thread a long time ago. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Papacy in M2TW is not set up to play by human.

    this problem happened to me the first time in installed patch 1.2, i solved it by uninstalling the game, and deleting the game folder "make sure of that" reinstall it, and apply the patch, "don't apply patch 1.1" and don't use cracks, they probably cause several damages to the game. just use ur cd if u use cracks

    Do you have Kingdoms? Did you really install SS 1.05? The current version is 5.1.

    Currently, I have Road to Jerusalem 2.0 V lite and patch 1.1, I did what you said, I reinstalled it, (deleted my Sega folder before I did and then uninstalled it, re-installed it and installed patch 1.1V, and then I installed Road to Jerusalem 2.0 Lite and it works.... I think it's patch 1.2 and 1.3, when I install them and then install a mod like Broken Crescent or Darth Mod, the game crashes, and also, can I play 2 mods at once?

    Install the regular game, patch to 1.2 then 1.3 and play the game. If it works, then install your mods. Do not install patch 1.1. Also some mods cannot be installed as they change the core game. Only if they create their own folder will they work together.
