18 million dollars. Was it a fair price for the key to salvation? :hmmm:

I can, but thats because I just now have a brand new key!

There's 58 other keys, but unless I'm mistaken, no locked door anyway.
I guess it was used by the caliph, but there is no caliph since 1922, so it's just... metal.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."
- Flavius Vegetius Renatus (in Epitoma Rei Militari, ca. 390)
Well tbh i think Islamic art is absolutely brilliant at times so i find it wierd that other art is gives a much higher price tag.
its not just metal--- it is a symbol of power, a symbol of faith etc, it means alot to businessmen in other words.-- I agree islamic art is wonderful, but I consider this more like the bones of a saint from catholicism its a religious relic.(which is a kind of art of course)
I think the key is as valuable as the key to the Church of Holy Sepulcher except for the church there is only one key that is still being used.

I wish my checkbook was that big.
Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly does the key do? I assume its symbolic of something, care to enlighten me?

It's pretty much what is done with art, relics, and so forth in private collections. Ornamental, a show of how wealthy you are, an attempt to clone the Caliphs who wielded such a key, ect.
Ahhh.....reminds me of the Shah to some extent....

Probably one incredibly rich Saudi, or the Pope who bought it...

Holy relics are awesome. I wish i had enough money to buy the Ark of the Covenant. A couple of weeks ago, a guy who knew where it was, was going to tell me.

The thread was closed before he disclosed the information properly. (By mods who work for the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword.)
I would pay $18 million for a key to the Ka'ba.
