    Default How do you remove slow-mo combat?

    I played BC and noticed that battles were painfully slow as compared to usual. I did a bit of reading and I realized this was supposed to be an integrated feature, supposedly to allow more time for tactical decisions. However, I find the slowness of the 1x speed to be very annoying, and that I have to fiddle around with the time controls much more than usual just to progress the battle without watching my knights swing a sword like they were high on hashish. I also tried just setting the speed to 2x from the onset, but then it feels faster than the "original" 1x setting, and the speed juts back to 1x when scrolling.

    If I were to disable the changes to how time flows in BC combat, how would I go about that? Thanks in advance.

    einstein said that time slows down the faster you are moving. perhaps if you slow down your units until the point that they are actually travelling back in time, time would speed up. wait, that makes no sense.

    Pfft, just have your units travel at nigh-speed of light for a while and then slow back to "normal" and find your enemies dead by old age.

    You can get the time rate to be more dynamic. Instead of 1x 2x 3x you can also get rates like 1.3 and - 0.4.

    Hold down shift and press the + (or -) to tweak it.

    ooooh, i see. I didn't know that. Thanks, I'll try that out.

    I'm still not very sure what's causing the delays in swings, etc, but I'm assuming it's a combat mod.

    perhaps a black hole has manifested itself at or near your battlefields.

    Curious, but what specific unit was giving you problems? I imagine you've had it for many, maybe all, but can you give me a single unit with that issue?

    I'm playing Kingdom of Armenia. Well, mostly it felt like combat in general lasted longer than usual. It's just that watching melee in detail is one of the more enjoyable parts of M2TW for me and the way those axe dudes swing an axe is just sloooooooow. Balanced, maybe, but it made for very unentertaining melees.

    The 2handers were the main issue? In that case that's probably due to me making their attack delays far too slow. We'll be looking into that. The nasty problem with it is the 2 handed axe animation is really terrible. May see if a 2h sword or halberd one looks better.

    Yes.. some units have an attack delay for balance. Like Janissary Heavies for example.

    Even after 10th post, I am not sure what the issue is? Lets try this.
    "I think units... (select appropriate )
    a) swing to slow
    b) swing rarely, i.e. standing idle around
    c) overall game motions in the game are too slow for me, because I got used to COD4 jumping around.

    They don't seem that slow to me. The almost 1 shot kill they have more than makes up for it. Its only when assaulting a wall dose the slower speed get them killed before they can take action but the defender always has the advantage. Namingly Pelekyphoroi Axemen Vs moderate Spearmen almost loose. Was back in 1.0 and can't remember well. I typically just bust down the gate and march in anyway. Pelekyphoroi Axemen are awesome.

    As Darvist points out, 2 handed axemen on the walls swing really terribly. They often get poked by a spear before they even finish a swing, making them do an "ugh" animation or die.

    For Strelac, I think units swing a bit too slow and rarely, most specifically 2handers like armenia's axemen. This causes two issues: (1) melees involving units like armenia's axemen are awfully dull to watch due to how slow they hack ("just kill them already!") and (2) Said units get killed pretty easily on the walls due to their animations.

    I've gotten around issue 1 by using the shift+click time tweak mentioned above, which makes melees progress faster. Issue 2: well, I'll leave balancing to you guys' discretion.

    @Darvist
    that has been resolved through workaround. The new unit system will encourage players to use high class units, and they will perform as such. No more archers raping your expensive 2Handers on the wall during the siege.

    @user
    the rate at which units kill is not directly related to how many times units swing. MTW2 does not have so good collision detection. It mainly resides on the EDU stats. However, I do agree that it can be visually unappealing, specifically continues "failed attack" (unit bounces backward). There may be something I can do about it.
    Thx for clarification.

    ooooh, i see. And here I thought they never manage to pull off an attack because of those failed attack animations.

    Most people feel the same. The way it sort of works is as following: each animation attack has some range parameters configured. When unit strikes, game uses the range parameters to “see” whether there is any opponent’s bots in the area bound by those parameters. If there is, the game rolls the dice…if its hit, takes the EDU stats form the target and attacker, and determines, whether target should die….more or less. I guess if you hit more often the probability is in your favor, such as playing the lottery using more number combinations.
    However, the determining factor is what’s in the EDU stats.
