Rome TW - crash on loading?

Hi all,

I've been playing Rome Total War for a good while now, but I'm having a having a crash on startup. It happens just after the intro video plays out and the screen goes red and gives you the Latin proverb. The loading progress bar indicates the game is loading but then continues on off the edge of the screen and the whole game freezes. The only way get out is to power off the computer. This happens every time.

I'm at a bit of a loss with what to do - the video drivers are up to date and DirectX diagnostic is OK. It only started happening after I'd completed the campaign with Cathage and selected the Selucids for the next campaign, if thats relevant.

Heres hoping someone had the same issue and fixed it. Thanks in advance.

try reinstalling the game

make sure you delete the RTW folder, before you reinstall (some file in there might be corrupted)

Steps-
1.Uninstall RTW
2.Delete RTW folder
3.Install RTW

p.s. What version do you have and do you have BI(Barbarian Invasion)?

Cheers - yeah - after reading the forums here I went back and removed the game, then anything even remotely connected with Rome, and re-installed it. There were a few files missed by the de-installer. It solved the problem but I don't seem to be able to play my saved games (copied them before I deleted the game) - I guess its start again time. Working on patching up to 1.5 at the moment. I have BI but haven't installed it yet.

well to play your saved games you need to put them in the correct RTW folder

you have to put your saved games in the save folder in RTW

C\Program Files\Activision or Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\Saves

put your saved games in there and they should work

Yep - I did that as you said, but it didn't work. However once I modded to 1.5 that seems to have done the trick - odd as I was only playing 1.3 before.

I'm having the exact same issue, but deleting then reinstalling the game did not work for me. Any other suggestions?

Try this. Start a new campaign and save at first turn. Then copy your saved files back in. Then exit RTW.
Then re start RTW you should be able to use load game option to pick a old saved game.
Worked for me with my recent reinstall....Sadly now CD wont recognize in drive, so I am at a loss, I was just getting into teh EB MOD too..:hmmm:
