    Default Patch 1.2 won't install

I haven't played Medieval II for a while, so I decided to download the latest patch. Patch 1.2 downloaded without incident, and I tried to run it. Instead of extracting to my Medieval Total War II folder, it extracted to some obscure DOCUME~1 folder. It installs automatically so I can't browse my files and choose the right one to extract the files to. Naturally, it won't run because there is no Medieval II in that folder.

I've tried using the Windows search feature to locate that folder, but the searches never yield any results.

Has anybody else had this problem?

did you right click and extract to desktop then double click the setup icon (<do that)....or did you just double click the rar. folder?

Setup extracts to the temp folder and should run the patch installer (check anti-virus etc not blocking it...).
It is not meant to extract to the game folder.

I don't think my anti-virus is blocking it, otherwise it would have said so. I've never had this trouble with a patch before. I have tried moving the patch application to the desktop, but that doesn't help. I've double-clicked the rar folder in the game file and tried to run it on the desktop. Nothing is working.

I have 11 GB remaining on my C drive. That's not the problem.

    Nope. I'm using Windows XP.

Also, Medieval II is in my F drive (I have two different hard drives). I've got hundreds of available GB in my F drive. Patch 1.1 installed without any problems whatsoever.

Look in your documents and settings folder (DOCUME~1). I can tell you weren't around computers when Windows went from 16bit system to 32bit system.

Oh, I was around. But my family had a Macintosh.

I'm looking in Documents and Settings right now, but can't find anything at all in the temp folder.

I bought my first computer when it was still dos 3.14 and you could program with basic only because that's what work had and the games I wanted to play.

If it said it downloaded it there, it's there. In my computer as long as you'er in that folder, click search and type medieval and hit enter. Be sure to have it search hidden and system files just in case it did something unexpected.

    Nope, it's not showing.

ing Medieval 2. I've never had such difficulty updating a game. If Wikipedia is to be believed, I might have re-install the entire game and start from scratch.

Did you reinstall the game or are you currently patching over 1.1?

1.2 must be applied over a fresh install of the game (incase you are using 1.1)

-If it's 1.0 make sure you haven't modded any files

-If the problem still occurs try downloading it from another site

Aww man, I am trying to install it over 1.1. Curse you, Creative Assembly! CURSE YOU!!!!!!!

Update: I re-installed the game and ran the patch. I think I should be fine now. Thanks for all your help.

Another update: For some reason, the program didn't create a Sega folder when I re-installed. It's slow as hell because it's just running from Program Files and now my whole computer's suffering. I'm going to remove all Medieval 2 components and start all over again.

THIS is what we get when greedy publishers shove a product out before it's ready.

LOL, probably when you changed to the F drive, you may not have included Sega in the destination path.
