    Default Need some assistance

Hi, I am new to rs, but have played vanilla numerous times, some epic battles that I will remember for some time to come.

Now I hear people say something about house rules when they do a campaign, could someone explain to me what these house rules are, also could someone please tell me which faction is the hardest to play as on VH/VH.

    Thanks

    Here is the house rules:
    1. This mod is designed to be played on H\H or H\VH settings. If you play it any other way you will make it much easier and less challenging.

    2. Build and develope your own Nation for 25-40 years before expanding very much. Allowing the AI to build up steam will make playing this mod a lot more fun.

    3. You may recruit as many Republican Legions (hastati\principe\triarii) as you like.

    4. You may recruit as many VE Legions as you like.

    5. You may recruit a named and numbered Legion in whatever city it appears in the recruitment cue. That means if Legio I Minerva can be recruited in a Gaul region, you may recruit it there, and if it appears elsewhere, you may recruit it there as well. This won't happen much, but there are a few instances.

    6. You should have no more than 9 cohorts and 1 1st cohort in a Legion. That is the historical composition of a Legion, along with other units. A Legion must also be commanded by a General, and is considered 'out of action' if the General is killed, until commanded by another.

    7. It is quite acceptable to have a supply of 'reserve\replacement' cohorts recruited and available to replace losses in a Legion on campaign. In fact, it's a good idea to do so if the Legion is far from where it was recruited. Use ships to shuttle back and forth if you have to..it's faster.

    8. Don't sink troop carrying AI ships.....you do not know where they are going or what the AI intends to do with them, and in reality you would never have a way of knowing this was being done.

    9. Imperial reforms are triggered by building Imperial Palaces in either Croton, Patavium, Mediolanum, Tarentum or Byzantium. If you want to delay the appearance of Numbered and Named Legions in Italy, don't build the last barracks until you want them. If the Imperial Reforms occur, they will all show up anyway.

    10. Every faction has Govermors available.....therefore every city should have a Governor. This is far more realistic.

The hardest faction is in my opinion Bosporans, they have to face horse archer armies and they are greek, thats a bad combination.

And welcome to RS btw, hopefully you will injoy it as much as we all do

Wolf here's a start. RS's House Rules. You can chose to use them or not, I've found campaigns more challanging and realistic by implementing various house rules I've used from the different mods I've played.

There's also many I still use from when I played the SPQR mod: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=83014

Play H/VH not VH/VH, there is a bug which gives the human a bonus as well as the AI at VH, making it easier than H.

Thanks for your helpful advice everyone, just wondering but when you say that I should not expand so much in the beginning for first 20 years or so, how many cities would that be around?
Also is fog of war, classified as a cheat, or do ye use it?

    Thanks

As the Romans, for example, just taking Italy would count as not expanding much. Then wait and build up for 20 years and then start expanding further.

If I use toggle_fow I usually go to an empty area of the map (like the desert or steppes) and then use it just to see how the mini-map looks, that way you won't get an advantage, but still get to see how the AI is progressing.

what i do as the Romans is usually take all of italy south of the po (along with Liguria), and thsn stop and develop. after a decent period of time (where i've built up my forces, and my economy), i then invade sicily, sardinia and corsica, and sometimes Malta, then stop, and develop. then i take all of italy south of the Alps, and stop for a bit. then take north-western spain (Emporion, i think), and invade Epirus' homeland. from there on in, i fight a two front war with carthage (in spain, and later africa) and macedon until i've ground them both into the dirt!
