You are probably not aware of the political party the English Democrats. I was only vaguely aware of them myself. Essentially they campaign on a base of democratic equality for England with some very good ideas with some genuinely embarrassing and worrying rhetoric. This week all candidates from the three major parties - Ken Livingstone, Boris Johnson and Brian Paddick joined together to campaign for Londoners registering to vote and then to vote for one of the mainstream parties, to undermine the British National Party. Watching this video explains why exactly marginalising the nationalist parties may well be a wise move.
Now underneath it there are some seriously important and valid issues. The extra money and subsequent welfare than Scotland enjoys is democratically adhorrent, and it is certainly not right that in the capital of England that the mayor should march in a St. Patrick's Day parade but ban a St. George's one. But to see it held aloft only by this utter buffoon with his unveiled prejudice is appalling, and painful to watch because it will only serve to associate these perfectly reasonable democratic arguments with stereotyping.
