Default The London mayoral election and the English Democrats

You are probably not aware of the political party the English Democrats. I was only vaguely aware of them myself. Essentially they campaign on a base of democratic equality for England with some very good ideas with some genuinely embarrassing and worrying rhetoric. This week all candidates from the three major parties - Ken Livingstone, Boris Johnson and Brian Paddick joined together to campaign for Londoners registering to vote and then to vote for one of the mainstream parties, to undermine the British National Party. Watching this video explains why exactly marginalising the nationalist parties may well be a wise move.

Now underneath it there are some seriously important and valid issues. The extra money and subsequent welfare than Scotland enjoys is democratically adhorrent, and it is certainly not right that in the capital of England that the mayor should march in a St. Patrick's Day parade but ban a St. George's one. But to see it held aloft only by this utter buffoon with his unveiled prejudice is appalling, and painful to watch because it will only serve to associate these perfectly reasonable democratic arguments with stereotyping.

Some good points, yet still seems more like a comedy skit than an actual plea for votes.

    Nice try English Democrats.
What the hell does he think he's running for London Mayor or 'English' Prime Minister?

What has Scotland got to do with London.?

It said in the video, a lot of Londons taxes goto funding Scotland. Understandably people consider that unfair.

Indeed, some very interesting points but the way in which it is done makes me not take it seriously.

The UK is a welfare state, money is forcibly taken from the richer and given to poorer. You should expect this and be proud that your government is fleecing you for the benefit of your fellow citizens.

But seriously some very valid points there. Time to end the Barnett formula me thinks. Why Wales and Scotland should get any extra money is beyond me.
Oh come on I saw Braveheart, the English oppressed and pillaged Scotland and Wales for centuries, its time the English got kicked in the nads.

As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.

Well, it is paid for by England as a whole but an overwhelming proportion of England's population and wealth is in the Greater London area.

    i hate democrats
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.

So wealth redistribution should be limited in nationalist terms? That'll only encourage division.

Your opinion, if it were to gain political weight, would suggest centripetalism to be preferable to consociationalism.

The picture is very complex. One point I would like to make is a great deal of money goes down south from the North Sea oil.

Oh yes, that's why English people get all the same education, health and welfare benefits as Scots!

    Oh... wait...

All taxes are forcibly taken, otherwise it would be a donation. Come on now, you can't say that for centuries England didn't get the better of Scotland and Wales?

It is not my logic, it is the logic of your welfare state. I don't believe in redistribution of wealth by government. It must be hard to realize that the wealthfare state that the UK has is slowly, quietly screwing you (by you I mean the English)

You show zero understanding of the situation and are desperate to simplify it so it fits with your socialism = bad mentality. The Barnett Formula (go on, wikipedia it) was set up decades ago to not only address nationalist sentiment before the advent of devolution (wikipedia, BWB) but also to modernise severely underdeveloped parts of Britain in order to improve the economy, areas that have since caught up making the Barnett Formula unfair and unecessary.

But why the **** would BWB want to trouble himself with reality.
