    Default Skipping the VE legions

Im not very keen on the VE legions because i always go very quickly from the army barracks to an imperial palace in tarentum which of course causes the imperial reforms to occur.

in my current campaign, I decided to ignore the VE legions and stick with my mainly principes and triarri legions until I can start training named legions. So far its worked fine and actually i find my seasoned principes and triarri far more formidable than than VE legions.

Also im not sure about those VE legion colours. They just dont look right. The red is too pink and the blue is kind of too loud.

Anyone else ignore the VE legions stage? It appears to have no disadvantageous effects overall.

VE legions are actually only 1 stat worse than the named legions (not the imperial one) so they should be a considerable upgrade. But it can be easy to miss them, especially since you don't always get army barracks in all cities at the same time (without planning ahead) and so you end up with one or two cities which can produce them.

I have to say I used to skip them, but in my most recent campaign I gave them a try (even had some VE II running around Macedonia) and I really suggest you give them a try. Try and get past your reservations and fight some tough battles with them, you'll learn to love them!

I think the ve legion's are to best to use before the reforms. When I use hem I have one General, 1 first cohort, 9 core hots 4 tariari 2 missile and 2 cav bring that into battle and see how it turns out. Thee properly the best thing you could have n you array till the reforms.

I absolutely love the VE legions! I often put off the reforms for a while until i can get some time to play with them. You definately learn to love them!

    Give 'em a go!

I agree the colour-thing: in my RS their colours- unitcards and unitinfo, at least, i can't change the skins, yet, - are changed in more realistic colour for both(VE I and VE II).
Howewer they are great and I also use to delay the date of Reform to can enjoy those guys.

I used to be just like you coldcall. I wasan't sure on using the VE legions. So I just stuck to my hastati based legions till I was able to get my named legions. But then I noticed one campaign that I had built them one of them. And they out beat my other legions. I realized that they can be a strong force if properly commanded. And in the mix of triarri they are a very powerful legion.

So yes I use the VE legions.
    There colors are cool.

    I like them.

The VE legions are awesome, they are like the named legions, only able to be recruited in more than one or two cities, I usually use them for some mid game barbarian bashing, against whom they are excellent.

Try them in a battle, they're actually red. They certainly look the part if you ask me.

It's actually easily done as the Army barracks can take a while to get to (sometimes longer than getting the Imperial Palace in Tarentum. I've skipped them in the past too, but the only way I managed to force myself to be able to recruit them in the whole of Italy was by delaying the Reforms,

i also ignored the VE legions the first time i played RS 1.5
they are not bad units in their own right.

however, looking at the armies i already had, composed of silver chevron principes and triarii, why would i replace them for VE legions when an imperial palace in tarentum was around the corner?

The main reason I can think of is that not everyone wants the reforms to happen ASAP. Some play for historical accuracy and roleplaying, to some degree. Besides, VE legions are far superior to Pincipes and Triarii, and do represent a transition in the military of Rome.

Perhaps this is the wrong place to ask, but once the Imperial reforms are triggered, can all legion cities build their named legion regardless of barracks in the city? And what are the exact requirements for the Imperial reforms?

i believe you have to reach a certain barrack level to train the imperial legions.

as far as VE legions, i really like them in combination with Triarii. they are quite good and if you use them well, you get very experienced units. the big advantage is you can train them almost anywhere and therefore retrain them almost anywhere...to me this is a major advantage!

    Not in Rome?

And do the barracks have to reach that level in every city to train that city's legion? Or do you go on training Hastati in cities without the higher barrack levels?
