    Default Replacing Militia Units

I wanted to switch around some of England's militia.

I wanted to add Lonbowmen in the fourth tier to replace Billmen, and bump Billmen down to the third tier (deleting Archer Militia altogether).

I copied the Longowmen data in the EDU, made a few edits (militia longbows aren't as good as the full time professionals) and renamed it Longbow Militia.

Then I edited the EDB to replace Bill Militia with Longbow Militia. No problems...except in-game it show Unlocalized Text Placement where the name and description of the unit should be.

Everything else seems to work...just the text is messed up....and it shows a picture of some peasant with a knife instead of a Longbowman.

What other file do I need to edit to get the correct text? I've been looking in my SS data folder, but haven't found anything that seems correct...there must be an edited file there, since they have new descriptions for units in SS.

    Default Re: Replacing Militia Units

Okay, in your data folder, there should be a folder called Text. Open it and find these two files:

    export_units.txt
    export_units.txt.strings.bin

Delete the .strings.bin file and then open up export_units.txt in notepad. You'll see that it's a reference file for all the unit descriptions in the game. Find the one for Longbowman and make a completely new entry following its exact style, but with a name like you gave in your EDU.

    Like this, maybe:

    {Longbow_Militia}Longbowmen Militia
    {Longbow_Militia_descr}Insert Long Description Here.
    {Longbow_Militia_descr_short}Short Description.

You can insert something like that anywhere. After that, save and close the file. Make sure you've deleted the .strings.bin accompanying file (the game will make a new one later based on your edited Export_Units.txt file).

This will solve your 'Unlocalized Placement Text' issue.

For your peasant image, look in the data folder for 'UI.' This folder will contain two important subfolders:

    unit_info
    units

The first stores all the large images the game uses for in-game unit description pages. The second stores the icons the game uses for custom battle and battle mode unit icons. This second folder is technically the most important, as unit_info is only seen when you right click a unit for more information.

Open both folders to find folders for each faction in the game. Simply find longbowmen_info.tga in the unit_info/england folder and make a copy of it. Rename the copied file to longbow_militia_info.tga (or whatever it's called in the EDU and export_units.txt). Then find #longbowmen.tga in units/england, again copy it, and rename the copy to #longbow_militia.tga.

This should fix your peasant image problem (the game automatically assigns a unit a peasant image if it can't find the appropriate unit card image in the ui folder).
