need help with skining

im new to modding, a few weakes or so, and ive got off 2 a flying start, within a few hours ide managed to work around playing as the aztecs on M2TW and began moving on to getting rid of thouse awful spartan hoplites with a better versian, after several attempts i decided to go with an auto unpaker so that i didnt have 2 doo anything, then i decided i wanted to skin my own moddles, but i have no idea what to use and due to a system eror most of my total war files have duplicated so i dont know which 1's to mod

i guese my real question is for a list of good programms to get me on my way to modding and a tutorial on how to use, and a tutorial on how to put my models in-game, also if any-1 knows about sm gd greek skins that'd be great

The only program you'll really need is either Gimp or Photoshop. I prefer photoshop just because I'm more familiar with it and its a more power image editor, especially if you want to eventually get into making your own icons and maps.
