    Default Pro Consul...?

    Greetings,

    I just appointed my first Pro Consul, in Rome. My question is what's the difference between a Governor and Pro Consul. Other than a few stats(combat) there's no visible difference between the two.

    I was expecting some inherent management traits, management ancillaries, and perhaps a larger bodyguard(cavalry maybe). Nothing of the sort...

    From initial inspection the Pro Consul seems no different than a Governor. Other than cost.

    He is pretty much just a stronger governor, perhaps for those 'problem provinces' such as Jerusalem. He is also in there for roleplaying purposes, if you do roleplay like that.

    I was too. How can he be stronger then, Nellup? :S


    Same with an emperor (however it's called). Not more/better traits than a regular trained general.

    Does he not have marginally better combat stats?

    It isn't much, but could help when fighting small rebel armies.
    Although I do agree, perhaps boosting combat stats further would make them more useful and reflect their increased cost.

    But what are combat stats compared to the task of an emperor? You would expect any good traits for command, government as well as influence.

    But you can't make recruitable governors automatically have traits, so the only way to represent this is making them stronger. There's a big difference in combat, too. If you have a family member with the cav and a proconsul with the infantry, the lines hold.

    Think of him as being appointed because of his connections, not because of his ability.

    This happened, but that doesn't mean it always was like this. Several emperors were indeed appointed because of that reason, but emperors like Antoninus Pius, Traian and Hadrian were chosen for their ability.
    Same with governors and stuff.
    If a familymember can have automatically traits, why can't a trained general/governor?

    Good info guys, thanks for replies. I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong, if perhaps I needed a certain structure(academy perhaps) for my Pro Consols to have better management traits/ancillaries.

    I'm all about the RP aspect of different types of governors.

    And I definitely agree about appointments to office being about "connections" and the likes.

    well, you can then get him adopted, and make him your faction heir, so that he becomes Emperor!

    If it's lame, don't use it. What does 'faction leader' mean, anyway? Completely unhistorical, especially for Republican Rome.

    If you don't work with a family-system, you could only train generals, who wouldn't have any connection with each other.

    Since it's hardcoded, I would like to see some kind of 'leadership' system, similar to Marcus Camillus'.
