    Default Question: Thracians

Anyone have any idea why the Thracian faction doesn't start with the Thrace territory?

Well, the thracians in RTR 6 are pretty much the geto dacians if you look at the provinces they hold. Besides, thrace proper was being invaded by celts right about then.
Don`t know who came up with this idea of a big thracian people that extends on both sides of Danube and on both sides of the Carpathians. My impression is that the thracian faction is the poorest developed of them all in RTR 6. It has the poorest skins in my view and retains much of the vanilla dacians flavour(which were some basic barbarian models with brown textures). In RTR 7 there will be getai in their place and much more work has gone into developing this faction.

I've done a bit of research on them, and from what I can tell Florin's right. I didn't fix them much in the ExRM, though, since I have absolutely no expertise in that area and I wouldn't know where to begin. I can't wait to see what RTR7 does!

Well, for starters take out the name of Attila, Oltenia and Banat from the character names list. They`re the most obviously wrong ones. Actually rtr is not responsible for them, that`s how they were in vanilla RTW too(for dacians). The first one is hunnic(germanic in origin afaik) and the other two are names of romanian provinces. Then you`d need better units that look getic. I`d suggest you use the ones Arbaces made if you haven`t done this already. The horse archers for example are a needed addition.

Ok, character names I can hack, but where do I get Arbaces' units? I don't remember seeing them in the download section.

If you do a quick search for "Heirs of Atlantis" in this Forum, you will probably find the thread. Arb also made a superb new faction icon, by the way.

He had a mini mod about the geto-dacians for RTRPE but he abandoned it unfortunately. It is listed in the thread for modifications above and it`s in the add-ons sub-forum too. Here it is:

I think he also changed some of the settlements` names as long as some other changes. Like allowing the barbarians to build large and huge cities. There are 4 dacian units in there iirc.

RTR7 starts in 280 BC, at which time the Getai-Dacians are located in their lands north of the Danube (modern Rumania), and are a playable faction, while other Thracian peoples like the Odrysai will be south of the Danube (modern Bulgaria), and are unplayable.

The Thracian lands have been subject to Greek colonisation (along the Black Sea coastline), Celtic incursions and settlement (middle Danube and Transylvania), Scythian incursions and settlement (mouth of the Danube), and conflicts with the Dardanians (Illyrian group) and the kingdom of Macedonia.

So its an interesting place in 280 BC!

    Oh, ok. I see.

I changed the names, but I don't think I can do anything else. I'm out of DMB space (wish I'd known about this before I did the new Greek colonial system), don't want to mess with what is now a finished mod, and (on the subject of their starting location) want to keep them right where I've moved them to avoid giving the Macs an excuse to go north.

A related question: why don't the Numidians have Numidia at the start of the game?

No idea. I just left 'em where RTR put 'em, on the theory that they know more about Numidians than I do.
