Or at the very least causing them to run amok. I'm not sure why so many online players are intimidated by elephants, even though my infantry forces have on several occasions become elephant toe jam.
They are all in all delicate units and easy to remove from play in one form or another.
My best success with killing them is using javelin throwing cavalry units.
If you’re good and lucky, lucky helps (for a unit of elephants be nasty beasts), 2 units of javelin cavalry can kill a unit of elephants pretty quick, under proper circumstances of course. Best to try to catch them without cavalry support, using your melee cavalry units to detain the “elephants” supporting melee cavalry units, while your javelin cavalry kills the elephants works well. Try not to get into to situations where your javelin cavalry can get spooked and rout, elephants are scary enough. If you can get the elephant units chasing your javelin cavalry, don’t let them catch you, but this is also the best way to kill them, by drawing them away from any supporting units if your javelin cavalry keeps pressure on them they’ll die quickly.
Once they’re chasing you, you have to continue to hit them with your javelins, even when they rout continue the pressure, kill them completely.
A lucky bombard, trebuchet, or catapult shot always is nice, anything with fire works good against elephants .You can protect your infantry forces effectively with peasant archers and fire arrows (need a bunch of um though).
Nothing prettier then a pack o’ dead pachyderms.
Hope to see you in the game.
