Default My Medieval II disc is faulty

My Medieval II disc one is halfway through installing the game when it throws up an error.

The moment of which it throws up an error is this:

    C:\program files\sega\medieval II Total War\packs\data_3.pack
It is at this stage of installing that it shows:

    Feature transfer error.

    Feature: packs

    component: packs

    File: D:\main\packs\data_3.pack

    Error: Data error(cyclic redundancy check)

    OK

I press ok and nothing happens. I then have to press 'cancel' and get annoyed that it isn't working

It never used to do this when previously installing on my PC, and I have not done anything major to my PC or damaged the disc.

    Can anyone please help me?

    Thankyou

I had cleaned it previous to attempting an installation.
I had noticed a faint scratch on the disc, but thought nothing of it. As it turns out, it was a problem.

I cleaned it again and applied a healthy dose of toothpaste for the scratch.

    It now works like new

Thank you all for your contributions in helping me.

clean the disk and check for scrathes on both sides.

If it is damaged get a new copy of the damaged disk, i will not tell you where to get one.

i think people should start creating their own disc images that way you save the actual disc and saves you lots of frustration, plus it is legal if you use it for your personal use.

It certainly does! Just make sure you use a pure, non-gel, toothpaste like: Colgate original or SR.

Place a tiny amount onto the CD and rub in a circular motion till all the CD is covered.
Leave it to dry for 5 minutes and then rinse off under cold water.

Dry it up and get rid of the cold and voilą! You have a CD which will play again like new.

To those who scoff at the trick, I say this: Try it with a CD you know is not working and you won't have anything to lose if it didn't work.

Now to watch the place in town that "repairs CDs" to see if they get a UPS package from Colgate.!
