    Icon1 Population growth initiatives

Mini FAQ about population growth initiatives:

    1. Pop growth initiative 1 affects public happiness due to law -20 %. But there is a "Market" after this description. Does this mean that it doesn't effect negatively the happiness if I have a market?
(And so on with pop growth ini II -25% Forum.)

AFAIk, this means that if you don't have a market when you build the the pop growth thing, then you will suffer a penalty to happiness.

    2. Are suburbs and cities with pop growth inis meant to complete each other's effects?

Suburbs and pop growths are the opposite of each other - it makes no sense to build them both.
    Suburbs to lower pop growth
Pop growth initiatives to raise pop growth.

    3. Why can I build village in one settlement, and suburb in another?

You need a suburb to build a village, then a village to build a city. They also require a certain level of city before they can be built.

    Thanks for your help.

yes but they have a happiness bonus, so building them with a sum of zero pop growth effect, they work very well.

They're not working exactly as intended currently, they're being redone for RS2. While the intention was for one to lower growth, and the other to increase it, due to the way RTW.exe handles modifiers, the suburbs will only reduce existing 'population_growth' modifiers, and if there are none to reduce, it has no effect. Since there is a health bonus attached to the building as well, most of the time it will actually increase growth.

Regardless of that, they're fantastic buildings to build (either one) to increase population, and I make sure all of my cities have the highest level suburbs I can build. They are great for population control and tax.

I never build those growth initiatives beacuse i find they cause runaway population explosion, and they are even worse if they are in cities one captures from other factions.

Towns appear to blossom into 20-30,000 populations in no time without anything but maybe the communal farming and crop rotation buildings.

    just started RS yesterday...

I take it these initiatives for growth can't be 'revoked'/destroyed once you reach your target population?

I'd like to hear more about these initiatives...

Is it really a bad idea in the long run due to a possibility of "runaway" population growth with no end in sight...

The buildings can be destroyed. Which is the point, so that you can reach your target population through intervention. And then destroy the buildings to give a nice money boost. Just think of it as the building form of a government process. Think of the suburbs as china's one child policy (which is now being *dismantled*), and the Population growth initiative like the Vatican not advocating condoms (which hasn't yet been dismantled).

ahhh, good news! Now I will use the initiatives, knowing they can be revoked once the target population is reached.

lol on the catholics/condoms comment, so true, so true... just a bit outdated, I think catholics have reached their "target" population surely by now.
