Remove them from what? They don't appear in any campaign do they?
BTW last night I was again impressed that the cannons on the back of the elephants have their muzzels about 18 inches (a cubit) from the heads of the elephant jockies. Now even if these guys are retarded and stone deaf I'd think each shot would cause a concussion or one serious puking headache. (One thing my Dad told me about WWII was don't get in front of the big guns when they go off.) Surely, if they ever really had cannons on the backs of elephants the shot the things to the side or the jockey got down or back with the gunner. How'd they ever load the things. Surely they weren't breach loaders then. Are we sure this wasn't just a myth as is the nonsense about we only use 10 percent of our brains.

read jovenul's thread. Dimitry's post has a good summation. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=157290
Why remove them? They are perfectly historical, it makes a good deal more sense to use elephants to lug huge pieces of metal around than humans or horses. Plus there are plenty of paintings and descriptions of such things happening.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.
A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."
The late 1500s also saw the use of culverin on elephants, but the onset of gunpowder made the large and relatively slow war elephants obsolete.
