Problem installing RTW

Hi
I`ve recently bought, to go along with my new pc, the total war anthology, which is by gspsoftware and has rome, bi and alexander on 3 dvd`s.
now the actual problem is that whenever i try to install it on my new pc it just does not load at all. it gets through the installation screen to the point where the install shield screen comes up and then tells me that copying files...

however, it has now been loading for 3 hours and still not getting anywhere close to completion.

cd`s load fine but it just appears to be dvd`s that are the problem. I`ve also tried loading medival 2 but same thing there. All the disks are brand new and when i`ve tried to load them on my daughters laptop they load fine.

The only thing i can thing of is that the drive is not correct for dvd`s but it is a lighscribe one and have burnt a dvd of music as backup so completely confused.

my system is running athlon 6400, 2g ddr2 ram plus a 512 ati card so it should go fine.

Any ideas at all please as getting really frustrated

Do you have a DVD reader or a CD rom reader?

EDIT: Does your driver displays a DVD logo?

its definitely a dvd drive as i have been able to play a dvd film on it
the problem seems to come when i try to load anything from the dvd drive onto the hard drive

Do you have the same problem with other games?

crysis is another that refuses to load up as well as fm2008. both of these are "games for windows" so pretty sure that it isnt the games.

having done research on the net it seems other people says its to do with direct memory access on vista but at that point i was lost

Vista? Do you have administrative rights on this computer?

So you say it gets bad when you get to the installshield screen? I suggest going into C:\Program Files\Common Files and renaming the InstallShield folder to InstallShield1 or something. Then try it again.

well its finally working so thanks for the suggestions.

in the end it did turn out to be the dma settings. i went in, switched them off and then back on again and it loaded within 10 minutes.

thanks once again for the varied suggestions and hopefully someone else will be able to use my head banging against the desk top in the future
