    Default [RR] Missing unit types

    Am I blind, or are certain factions in Ruina Romae missing crucial unit types?

    I am playing with the Franks, and while these have decent Heavy Infantry (Frankeska Heriskara and Heriban), they seem to have NO proper Skirmishers, which makes quite a slaughter out of every battle.

    As far as I see, they only get Waldmannir, which are archers and don't have shields, and Bajowariaz, who don't have a proper formation and only get 3 throwing spears anyway.

    Luckily I have a handful of Angonwerpara which I bribed away from some other faction (Saxons or Burgundii), but I can't retrain them or build new ones.

    I really notice a _huge_ difference between fighting a battle with or without skirmishers. I have a lot fewer casualties when I have skirmishers at my disposition.

    So what am I supposed to do?

    are you playing 7.03? Baiowarja and Angonwerpara are basically the same unit...

    Yes it's 7.03... The basic combat stats may be similar, but the Angonwerpara align nice and tidy in ranks and files AND can form shield walls, while the Bajowarja only flock together in huge circular lumps that can't be adjusted. Definitely not the same unit.

    maybe you are talking about Geoguth (saxon unit), that afaik is the only skirmisher unit that can form shieldwall, because stat-wise Baiowarja and Angonwerpara are exactly the same unit. Anyway, if you want to have your native franks skirmishers in square formation you have to open export_descr_unit.txt (located in \ibfd\data folder) and search "baiovari foot skirmishers", then replace "horde" (see below) with "square"

    I took some screenies so you see what I'm talking about.
    On these screens, you see that the unit I'm talking about
    - is named Angonwerpara
    - is 200 strong
    - counts as Spearmen (but does not get bonus against cavalry)
    - can skirmish (button on battle screen)
    - can form shield wall (button on battle screen and German text on unit screen)
    - and forms ranks and files

    ah I see - they are the generic horde unit, I didn't remember that they have shield wall, it's kinda weird...(oh and they get a bonus against cav too, even if it's not shown)
    you can't do much to have other units like those (or retrain them), horde units are given only at game start or when a faction lost his last settlement and "reborn" as a horde

    It's not really the "base horde unit" either, since that is called Horde Heriban or something, has Horde formation, no special abilities, no missile weapons, and something like 5 attack / 10 defense.

    Oh well, I guess I will indeed edit the Bajowara skirmishers to form squares.

    Ah okay, now I get it. ^^
    Yeah well, I took the liberty to edit the units file accordingly. The new Skirmishers should perform like the Iuwunga Frankaz in the RTR mod.
