What are your Top 10 fave Indie films?

#9: Memento
#8: Reservoir Dogs
#7: The Passion of the Christ
#6: The Terminator (yes, it was Indie)
#5: Run Lola Run
#4: City of God
#3: Paradise Now
#2: Schindler's List

I'm still looking forward to #1. Any recommendations? What's your top 10?

...oh, and if you're going to recommend me a movie, please don't recommend an "eccentric/liberal/hippy/romantic" indie movie (Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, or anything along those lines). Thank you. I like pedestrian stories like City of God or Paradise Now a lot, so anything like that would be awesome.

#1: Eraserhead
#2: Blade Runner (not sure if it was indie or not)
#3: Reservoir Dogs
#4: Evil Dead Series (that's right all of them)
#5: Straw Dogs
#6: Andy Warhol's Flesh for Frankenstein (freakin' hilarious)
#7: Blue Velvet
#8: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (only because no one watched when it came out)
#9: Videodrome
#10: They Live

I'd recommend Eraserhead, if you have any previous experience with David Lynch and enjoyed it then this one is a must. Same thing with Blue Velvet. Also must recommend the Evil Dead, mainly because Bruce Campbell is the lead character which only means one thing; pure certified BAD ASS.

I guess it depends on how strictly you apply the 'indie' label, as the line between indie and major studio has been blurred in recent years.

I'll list some in no particular order:

Happiness
Palindromes
Dogville
Requiem for a Dream
Ghost World
Pulp Fiction
The Squid and the Whale
The Dreamers
City of God
There Will Be Blood
No Country for Old Men

And there's about 100 others, but those are the first ones that came to mind.

- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is considered an Independent Film. It was distributed by Universal's arthouse division, Focus Features.

- Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou was written/directed/produced by Independent Film maker, Wes Anderson.

- Juno is considered by most people to be Independent. The style is also distinctly arthouse.

I wouldn't consider any of those movies to be mainstream. Also, I would consider having an "Indie" label to be more of a hindrance than anything. If I saw a movie labeled as such, I would do a lot more research on the film before spending 2+ hours watching it.
