    a way to raise the fertility rate for my characters.
    No one is having babies, and i dislike adopting people.
    I believe there is a cheat (give_trait......)
    so that I could give them fertility traits,
    but I was wondering if there was a way to do it by moding.

    I'm not sure about hacking the descr_strat files but I am pretty sure that the construction of certain shrines and temples will increase the chances of having children concerning the General/s stationed in the settlement.

    I think that fertility is sort of based off of how many regions you own, if you don't own many regions then your characters will not have many babies because you don't need them. And if you conquer a lot of regions then your characters will have more children so they can govern the new provinces. I don't know about changing files or anything so...

    As for adopting, if you don't adopt you are basically wasting like 50 percent of your family and you are bound to not have enough family members then because the females in your family cannot have children. I know that the adopted children do not have as good of traits usually but if you send their kids to train for 4 years (if you have 4 turn per year**** mod) then they will be just fine.

    I too don't like adopting or marrying off my daughters. My Carthaginian family must have an unbroken descent from the Faction leader.

    You can still marry off your daughters to get some good generals/governors. You don't have to make them faction heirs, eh.

    You will lose many good generals and governor, this will weaken your empire...

    So all your daughters never get married or have children? Wow. How unaccepted in any civilized country.

    I'm sure I'm not the only person who plays like this. I remember in the old RTR forums, it was quite a common thing.

    Sometimes, a family line of a son of Hanno dies out, and sometimes there is only one "scion" left, but he fathers like 5 sons so it's ok.

    Daughters are useless in my campaigns. I don't want my future family tree to be hijacked by Rusicades.

    IMHO just add recruitable generals.....

    The idea of governing cities by families is ridiculous and historically was only used by some barbarian tribes (and abandoned if they're to become *civilized*). Every advanced factions rely on professionals, whether from the noble class or common people, to manage their provinces - because royal families (if present) cannot provide enough men, and the capable ones are even rarer and usually with doubtful loyalty.

    And there is no royal bloodline in roman republic or greek cities at all.......

    How do you "just add recruitable generals?" Is it done in-game or is this another one of your cheats?

    Open EDB, find:
    Code:
            town_square requires factions { barbarian, carthaginian, eastern, egyptian, greek, roman, }
            {
                capability
                {
    and add lines like:
    Code:
                    recruit "east generals cavalry"                 0       requires factions { armenia, }
                    recruit "parthian general's cavalry"            0       requires factions { parthia, }
                    recruit "egyptian general's bodyguard"          0       requires factions { egypt, }
                    recruit "macedon general's guard cavalry"       0       requires factions { macedon, seleucid, }
                    recruit "bactrian generals guard cavalry"       0       requires factions { thrace, }
                    recruit "greek general's guard cavalry"         0       requires factions { greek_cities, }
                    recruit "east pontic general"                   0       requires factions { pontus, }
                    recruit "carthaginian general's cavalry"        0       requires factions { carthage, }
                    recruit "roman generals guard cavalry early"    0       requires factions { romans_julii, }
                    recruit "numidian chieftain cavalry early"      0       requires factions { numidia, }
    It allows you to recruit "bodyguard" units, which will be generals. And if you have temples and academic buildings, the generals recruited would usually have good traits (unlike your families....)

    You could've summed it up just by saying, "it's another one of my cheats"

    Well, generals are recruitable in vanilla BI, aren't they? I wouldn't call it a cheat, it is just a modding decision to enable it or not.

    I agree with TIberius, the only good generals in the game are family members, and this is not historical. Adding recruitable generals could be a good idea, but you must use this possibility wisely: training a general just once every 5 years as an house rules for example.
