    Default Pangea Day?

    Okay, this confuses me

Leading film-makers are seeking to change the way we think about other countries. This is one of a powerful series of films to be shown on Pangea Day, May 10, "the day the world comes together through film". See all four anthems. Then visit http://www.pangeaday.org and register your screening for May 10. It's time to imagine a different world.
Basically they have people from different countries singing the anthems of other countries.

    Check this out

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NRCt9NQqEE

Okay, here's my issue. Number of expat Aussies living in Lebanon? Almost nil, maybe a few hundred. Number of expat Lebanese living in Australia? Hundreds of thousands.

So why on earth isn't the vid of Lebanese people singing the Australian national anthem?

    It's politically correct anti-Western we-are-always-guilty-it-must-always-be-white-people-who-need-to-apologize
    -or-extend-the-hand-of-friendship-crap.

I poo on the vid, and I poo on Pangea day.

    What a joke.

Phew! It seems I'm not on my own. They've even got Turkey-Japan.

    Huh?

These stoner hippie types need a serious dose of wake the up.

    It's kind of interesting, actually.

And I really do not understand your argument, boofhead. So, the fact that there are a couple of thousands of lebs living in Australia makes it inappropriate to film a bunch of Aussies singing the Lebanese anthem?

I, for one, would love to see Mexicans singing the Star Spangled Banner. It's a rather too "let's spread love" kind of initiative to be taken at face value, but it is effective in the sense that it shows nationalism as the artificial dick-wagging it truly is.

BTW, I browsed this Pangea Day thing and it has absolutely no anti-western purpose. It's not even about race, considering that they have also filmed Kenyans singing the Indian anthem, Frenchmen singing to the Star Spangled Banner and so forth.

You don't have to see a Cronulla riot where there's none. They are not singing anti-western songs, they are not lynching Aussies on a beach. They're just upload some hippie videos of people singing other people's anthems. I can think about things a lot more "stupid" than that.

There about 150 nations in the world, so there are thousands of possible variants of which people could sing which anthem, no?

They've only made 4 videos, these pansies, and yet Australians singing the Lebanese anthem just happens to be one? How very, very convenient. You'll notice I never mentioned Cronulla, and yet it came to your mind, as it did to mine. Hence I can draw only one conclusion: these lefty pinko :wub:s are trying to say that Australians are racist against Lebanese and therefore need to 'share the love'. Well, these people can right off back to the holes they come from.

Apart from the fact the entire concept reeks of some New World Order (let's knock down borders and have a love orgy), it's morally treasonous to have a group sing the anthem of another. I wouldn't do it. I might stand out of respect for a foreign anthem, but I'm not singing the bastard.

And they had the gall to meld the flags of both Australia and Lebanon together....I mean, these people need a serious anal reaming. Who the hell do they think they are? Australians don't desire any kind of unity with Lebanon whatsoever.

The whole thing's offensive, they don't speak for Australians as a nation, they only speak for their own little limited ideological fantasy land. (That is my issue, Rapax).

Seems like the organizers chose the next best thing, having the French sing the Star Spangled Banner instead.

Riiiight. Because there's never been any sign of any Australians of the red-necked, bogan moron variety making ridiculous generalisations about Lebanese migrants. Never. Ever.

Methinks you doth protest waaaaay too much.

it's morally treasonous to have a group sing the anthem of another.
"Morally treasonous"?! Getting a touch hysterical there boof?

Yes, because that's reasonable. And good to see you've dispelled any hint of any Aussies having a problem with Lebanese migrants with this crazed, frothing rant. Top work -

    Thanks TD

Do you think these idiotic Pangea people have anything legitimate at all to say? They don't. They are as biased as hell against Australians. Not to mention the slag who runs it is an Egyptian, so it wouldn't be hard to guess why the vid has Aussies kow-towing like submissive limpets, rather than the other way around.

The whole thing sounds like snatimonius, limp hippy crap to me. BUt their points seems to be that (i) we're all pretty much the same, (ii) it would be good if we all got on better and (iii) there's been some tension between Lebanese and Anglo Australians lately. None of that strikes me as "illegitimate" or even vaguely remarkable. So if they want to make videos about it, good for them.

They are as biased as hell against Australians.
How do you work that out, white man? There's been tension between Lebanese and Anglo Aussies and they're saying both sides should chill out and look at what they have in common. And your problem with this would be ... what, exactly?

Not to mention the slag who runs it is an Egyptian, so it wouldn't be hard to guess why the vid has Aussies kow-towing like submissive limpets, rather than the other way around.
Charming. Yet again you prove yourself a shining beacon of tolerance and a blazing intellect lighting up the firmament of knowledge.

Whilst there idea is hugely idealistic to me that are not doing anything wrong. Its a nice idea and to me there are not saying anything offensive. There are not saying whether aussies or lebs are wrong at fault or anything methinks you are reading a little too much into this.

its arguable if actions like these improve the world or the relations between countries or simply of people of different heritage in single countries.

but it is a try. so whats bad about that.

kind of funny how ppl are able to see something evil in it and fertilize hatred and the tensions that this action tries to reduce

But you see, that's what it deserves, to utterly backfire. The effort may actually mean something if the nations involved were: US-Iran; North Korea-South Korea; China-Taiwan; Israel-Any Arab nation, where serious tensions are evident.

Australia-Lebanon?? :hmmm: Nothing going on there, AT ALL. To suggest there is is a little insulting.
    Japan-Turkey?? :hmmm: Ditto.

Why make such a fuss then? You started this entire topic about what seems to be an absolute non-issue.

The video featuring a French choir singing the Star Spangled Banner is pretty nice.

But I'd die to see some Brits singing La Marseillaise. Or Germans echoing the Russian hymn.
