Help needed for my version (1.4)

Hello everyone.

This is my first post here and I glad to be joining. Newbie, and blind as bat, I have one question:

I have version 1.4 of RTW--or so I have been told by the guy who sold it to me.
I have tried installing BARBARIAN INVASION over it and it worked. Then I uninstalled all and did a clean fresh install of my RTW v.1.4 again, which works fine.
I looked at the FAQ and Support 1st item by Hader here and he seems to be talking of a v. 1.2. What mods would apply to my version? Can I use this vanilla mod? And in what order should they go in? Where is it best to start from? Can I install BARBARIAN INVASION first and add the RTW basic mods later?

Meanwhile I see that no v.1.4 is NEVER mentioned here--I only see versions 1.3 and 1.5 talked about here. That would not suprise me as the guy who told me my version is 1.4 does not often know what he is talking about.

I am basically interested in being able to play with all the armies and, since I am Greek, I would like to bring in Greek battles of antiquity.

1.4 is the unpatched version of Barbarian Invasion(BI), not RTW

here is a rough list of the versions

-1.3-RTW (unpatched)
-1.4-BI (unpatched)
-1.5-RTW (latest version, patched)
-1.6-BI (latest version, patched)

to find the version you have, go to the main RTW screen, then go to options, then look in the upper right of the screen and you will see a number, that is your version.

if you have RTW 1.3 you need to patch RTW to 1.5
if you have BI 1.4 you need to patch BI to 1.6

Im not sure what your trying to ask here. If your asking if mods will work on your version 1.4, the answer is probably not, most mods need version 1.5 and 1.6 to work. Just patch RTW, like i said above, and then you will be able to play mods.

If you like the Greeks then try the Extended Greek Mod (XGM).

Just a sidenote, 1.3 isn't unpatched, it technically is a patch. The 1.0 version would be your unpatched version. If you do install regular RTW and then BI though, your RTW will be version 1.3 already and your BI will be 1.4 right off the bat. Then you should update both with the patch to 1.5 and 1.6 respectively.

Your replies have cleared up some issues.

Korlon, my versions according to the OPTIONS indications are:
1.3 for RTW and 1.4 for B.I.
That is as you said.

Now I tried to patch RTW with the one 1.3 patch and it did not accept it, and tried with the 1.5 patch and it did not accept that either. I am now wondering if I should try patch 1.6 or what. This game is full of patches and versions and perhaps that is understandable, given the wide field of eras, campaigns, battles, factions and whatnot it can handle.
Being Greek and writing as part of my work about historic battles, I am interested in Greek warfare. Someone suggested XGM or something like that.
I have saved the virgin original folder of RTW and BI somewhere else, just in case I need it--which I am sure I will. I tried to install the latest version of XGM and it would not install, so I am thinking I need an earlier version.

Any suggestions would be more than welcome.

Since you have BI installed, use the 1.6 patch. It has the 1.5 in it. It won't let you use the 1.5 patch because it found BI.
