    Icon7 Archers' Unofficial Patches

Ok, First pack of files you need to install to see the glints and reflections.

This "mod" (not really a mod but a fix) was done before but not for all the units, that has gloss files.

    What you need:

Rome- Total War , unmodified, or at least the unit names untouched.

    Q/A:

Can it break my game even if I have mods installed?

-No. It would just sit in the directory and if you have mods installed, these files have no effect on them.

What's the worst thing can happen if I got mods and I have this installed?

-Your installed mods won't have gloss files, unless the modder who created them made some. This pack only adds gloss files to the unedited units.

    Here you go:

    to download:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=1933

    Next thing:

Barbarian Invasion gloss files and fixing some textures. I'll see what needs fixing.

So, basically you`ve made and added gloss files for the vanilla units that lacked them by default? I didn`t realize there were any in this situation.

They were fixed before by various others when the game came out, but whoever missed those, here is your chance. And yes, if you have never installed these (and neither have any mods completely changing the units) then you do not get the gloss effect.

Here comes the next pack for Barb-Invasion. It's ready, let me upload it.

    example:

    Here you go: (download)

    Next:
I'm going to be looking into the textures (beside gloss maps) for both RTW and RTW:BI and of course the text files too. I want to keep it simple and clean, no crazy skins so, I believe there is enough skins been made in the last 6-7 years, If you want that, you got plenty of choices, so I'd rather just mess with the vanilla now.

Ok, I'm not sure how many of you still play Barb-Invasion, but I would understand if you'd be turned off by some of the vanilla skins in there, so I figured I could probably retexture some of the units, and even replace them with better models. I'm not saying i would build models from ground-up like some other modellers, but I could recycle some , even transfer from RTW to BI but with a different texture and similar trickery stuff.

The question is, would you want to see some of the barb-invasion factions re-textured? Perhaps units replaced?

I know, I'm kinda late with this while people playing with M2TW and anticipating the Empire total war, but since I'm having some nostalgia time with RTW and BI, I figured I might give it a shot if there is enough interest. I could probably go and mod the M2TW (which I have done) ,but the game mechanics of M2TW turns me off, especially the uninspiring battles of 10 people fighting and the rest is just watching and numerous other bugs (charge bug) .

    So, what do you say?

Well, I think that there are a lot of factions in BI that could benefit from your art. While the Romans and Sassanids have had some good re-skinning, I would not mind seeing some historically accurate Goth and Frank units. In fact, most of the Barbarian factions have REALLY ugly units.

Not to mention the Berbers, which are terrible, but due to their limited scope I would not bother working on them

Well, I`d be interested in new germanics and huns. When it comes to romans I love Razor`s units. Too bad he`s missing a couple from the FoR roster(like unarmored archers).
Only thing I`m not sure from your post is what you intend to do. Just slight cosmetic jobs on the textures like make them less brigh and saturated or do you intend to make new ones? Give us a sample.

I am actually intend to replace the unit textures and the models for most barbarian factions and nomads. That includes mostly the Slavs, Huns, Vandals, maybe even the Saxons and other similar factions.

I'm gonna show you an example , it's basically a bunch of units you probably never have seen, although it sits in your RTW directory, they were salvaged before the game came out, I could possibly use them for BI barbarians (various axe-man, archers, sworsdmen etc)

All I need to to do to transplant the models with the associated skins and do some recoloring, according to the faction color (although not as crazy bright and vivid as the original BI unit colors)
I'm gonna give you a preview shortly.

Just as a quick edit to show what I have in mind:

    Hunnic Elite Cavalry: (rough scetch)

    After this:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

(little too blue, i have to de-tone the color on it)

The original will be still in, but it will be a different unit

This is from the 'scythian noble cavalry', - IMO it's more correct then the mongoloid looking ones, especially considering that the "huns" were a multi-ethnic group of nomads, and the schytian model is more "Turkic" , since the Huns were more Turkic then mongol. That doesn't exclude them, but let's make them "multi-ethnic".

Ok, it`s nice, but is there any chance you can give it a recurved bow instead of the simple one he has now? It would need max to do that though.

No, sorry, I do not have sufficient skills to make or modify the models, otherwise trust me, I would re-create the entire hun-army!

I'm gonna have to work with the already available models and textures.

    here is the authenic real-deal!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Edit: ..So far, I'm just making some space for the new models in the descr_model_battle.txt. So far over 20 unused (vanilla) models have been removed from the text file. Amazingly cluttered up with junk.

Here is some early changes I made.

-Activated the hun flag-bearer (not working in vanilla)
-Removed the hun captain from his post, now he is the hun swordsmen as it was planned originally but changed at the last moment before release (see the unit card for them)
-Added a new captain or(general), the skin was unused, now activated

These aren't finalized yet, just rough changes.

There are many more changes to come, most of the hunnic units either resemble Wolverine or Jay Leno or have some crazy faces.

    Edit:
    More units replaced:
Hun Elite Archers (previously shown before)
    Hun Lancers (no shield)
Hun Heavy Spearmen (no shield) same model as the lancers, except unmounted.
Hun Warlords ~ coming from the vanilla model/texure (not used) they appear to have a giant machete, I'll try to reduce it, it looks rediculously big.

note: units are subject to change + no gloss files created yet + more standard bearers for each unit group

Also, the tribal units will have to be replaced, they look weird and out of place, almost like some sort of beduin warriors or something.

Is your patch good for version 1.5? I have just received the game, used to play it, but basically starting fresh with the intention to try out the mods (mainly RTR TIC and EB). I am just overwhelmed with all the posts and the information.

So, to keep it simple, what do you recommend for someone who just got RTW Gold and wants to play Vanilla for a bit before moving on to the challenging mods? Should I keep playing v1.5? Should I install and play BI (v1.6)? After downloading your patch, is there anything else you recommend to improve the experience? I am only going to play against the AI, not interested in multiplayer.

I am really amazed how much customization and development there has been around RTW - actually, not really since this is a really superb and addictive game (even with v1.1 that I used to play, hehe) and apparently very moddable. But it's kinda challenging to keep all the mods, patches and fixes straight.

I'd get stuck strait into the mods if I were you..So many to try..

Check this table for mods which can be installed on one install of RTW..(green folders)..

I can recommend 77 bc if you want something similar in feel to vanilla and not to difficult but with mostly RTR units and especially good scripted missions...

Also RTR Platinum Edition is (RTR 6 within a mod folder) another good one which isn't to difficult, if you want to ease back into playing.
