I was playing as the gauls and in about 276 i was able to finish off the Romans and capture Rome. In my opinion it was way too easy.

In 8 turns? Sounds improbabile
Small factions are all very weak initially. Believe me romans would be your worst nightmare if you allow them to build up like Ptolemaic or Macedon do.

In my current campaign the romans are getting pwnt by the gauls and the greeks..
but when i played as macedon the romans pwnd ass, and they were very very hard to beat with their high defends capability![]()
damn they gave me a hard time![]()
They'll fight back - they always do.
I have seen they fought back from just one city (Roma), with less than a full stack of army. Greek cities may win if they can keep the greece, but gauls just suck

That's an argument for trying to play with some historical accuracy. If you're looking for somewhat of a challenge.
You have to realize that in the early game all the factions are using their basic units, there are few "seasoned" armies out there and even fewer good generals.
Slow down. Let the other factions develop...then fight them when they're strong.
i totally agree with morteduzionism: introducing house rules that forced you to play historically, or just to slow down, is a good choice. If you don't use them, you will often find Rome a bit easy
I played the Gauls on VH/VH and defeated Rome quickly but then the nightmare started. Carthage, Illyria and the Greek States ganged up on me then 10-12 moves later Macedon which had subdued the Greek peninsula started to attack. No one wanted to be my ally.
I was hammered from all sides, so I decided to sack all my Italian cities and withdraw back to Gaul. I slowly subdued Britain to gain some safe trading routes and cities. But Britain is no pushover with the woad warriors, slingers and chariots.
Just because you have defeated Rome doesn't mean the game is over - it just means a new struggle for dominance has begun.
For ultra-historical accuracy, you could then gift Rome back to the Romans, as the Gauls did sack Rome, but it remained in Roman possession. Unless of course you've completely destroyed the Roman faction.
Whatcha' wearing?
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I too used the gauls to beat rome within a few years,
however this was on RTR vanilla when I could rely on the near-invincible
2-hitpoint generals' cavalry (a feat that is now impossible with the Logic Mod).![]()
RTR-PE is nice and all, but too easy to beat, even on VH. Try the ExRM mod for a bit more challenge.
