    Default Under siege

what fastest way to burn battering-ram or siege tower?

The whole burning thing seems pretty random to me. Sometimes, under a hail of fire arrows the ram just goes on as if nothing is happening. Sometimes it catches flame in a blink of an eye. The ballista towers are very effective though but mostly it's a matter of luck. Oh, and the AI has a tendency to burn down siege towers, something where I rarely succeed.

I have only managed to burn a single battering ram since I have started playing M2TW and that was in a situation where about 3 or 4 ballista towers and 4 units of archers were firing flaming arrows like mad.

So I agree with Nergal1610, it seems pretty much random, whereas the ai probably has some kind of huge bonus on burning siege equipment (one of the reasons why I'm never using siege towers... )

Same here. Ladders are much better! Is there actually any reason one should take a siege tower instead of a ladder?:hmmm:

Because they are better if the quality of the enemy melee troops on the walls is similar to yours. With a ladder everyone goes over 1 by 1 and they get surrounded, but with siege towers they all rush onto the walls at once, reducing the advantage that the defenders get.

Thanks for the info, didn't think of seige towers along those lines, but a good point. I may have to rework my seige stratagy, Always used ladders, I like taking the walls instead of destroying them.

I have had some luck with burning siege equipment, but not as much as the computer. After a couple times of trying to batter down a heavily outnumbered enemy garrison, with sometimes all three of my rams being lit on fire, I just now auto-battle it.

I think the best I've ever done, was two rams in one battle, and my most luckiest, was a siege tower that lit on fire right after it was moved into position, so it bured down with a good quanity of Genovese Crossbowmen in it.

Tips? There are none, really. It seems quite out of our control, as sometimes I dedicate all of my troops to fire on one siege engine but it doesn't flame out, yet sometimes it can be accomplished by one tower.

Usually I don't bother trying to take down siege equipment with archers, you may as well just try and kill as many troops as possible and let the ballista/cannon towers do the work if they can.
