    Default dont feed the politicians.

By God, no wonder the Rt Hon John Prescott is so fat. The British taxpayer was keeping him well supplied with pies.

That fat bastard. I pay for his food, Blairs TV and groceries?

What does his 200,000 a year salary not do it for him? Plus the free house, called Downing Street?

    Corruption....

I suppose we didn't have to pay for his condoms when he was getting regular debriefing sessions from one of his Civil Servants.

They should turn him into soap, he'd make a lot of it.

It's wrong to get too excited over the expenses scandal. I am sure that some arse holes have done some stupid claims, but MPs expenses are a simple necessity if they are to have any hope of satisfying the democratic needs of their constituents.

I don't mind reasonable job-related travel and subsistence, but I think most people earning between £60 - 150k ( plus income from other sources) are capable of buying their own groceries, furniture and TV licences.

It also said that they had their council tax paid for them. How does that work, take tax to pay tax?

Your average MP's salary is in fact not especially high. Comprable to a mid-ranked member of the armed forces.

Mine isn't either and I still have to buy my own pies.

Like I say, I am sure there are exceptional examples. But the expenses are there for a good reason.

Well the thing is I've been there whilst it's all been kicking off and unfortunately it's your constituent-minded back-bencher that's really suffering. And that's just not good for representative democracy.
