Default Political Marriage vs Romantic Marriage

Is it better to have a political marriage than a romantic marriage?
now b4 everyone cites 'Cinderella' and every other '...Happily Ever After' fairy tale, let's have a look at things cold and hard and objectively.

for ppl who make arranged political marriages, it's to secure financial/political standing/alliances-usually they're marrying upwwards...plus they can also have 'mistresses' or 'toyboys', as well as the benefits the marriage reaps.
    what say you?

Back then it appears there is a greater likelihood for a political marriage to succeed. Because even if a political marriage screws up, the benefits hold the couple together (as you said). If a romantic marriage screws up, it tends to lead to a divorce.

Even if one is forced to marry, the couple tends to love each other anyway. But I don't know how to answer your question of “better” :hmmm:

Maybe if bush marries off one of his daughters to an Iranian Judge the United States won't have to invade Iran?

So, having sex and babies with someone you're totally uninterested in is worth it so long as you get a mistress on the side?

Methinks many people would be upset.

Well statistically they are the most stable in history.

Political Marriage: Keeping the rich staying rich and the poor staying poor.

I wonder how well those political marriages would go if divorce were lawful for both parties.

Depends on the quality of the pre-nup.

I believe so. In the Saudi hierachy system and in much of the Arab world where installed despots have been getting away with despotism for decades. I also believe Mohammed Al-Fayed is a product of one and is part of one.

Marriages are also encouraged between rich powerful families in the US as well as parts of Western Europe.

Arranged marriages certainly do - Iraq, Iran, India. I'm sure there's more. I can't imagine how anyone manages to date in Saudi Arabia, for example, so I'd guess that arranged marriage is the norm there too.

Which is different to a political marriage. I'm Indian, I know.

    I didn't

For all intents and purposes they are the same. They're synonyms unless you get really really specific and say that marriage is purely for political reasons, which certainly are rather useless when political power is no longer transferred through heirs.

Its hard to see a "romantic" marriage nowdays, I believe most people take a very "cold" decision when it comes to it: Are we compatible? Can we raise a family? Is the sex life good? Am I gonna be able to pursue my carrer goals?

I think the romantic "I love you, lets do this!" type of marriage its extremely rare.

Well, it is more tradition and 'keeping it within the community', so to speak, rather than 'the rich marry the rich'. Arguably, that is the case, where strict arranged marriages do take place within the same class - but caste and class in India are very different, you see. You can have a poor Soni (goldsmith) and a rich Gandhi (grocer).
