All these mods require the Viking Invasion expansion pack, sadly I dont know of any that dont.

Wow, it's alot better then MTW...
I don't know about Rome though...

well, depends. in rome i hated playing BI because besides the romans, the other factions had almost the same troops as eachother:barbarians.

Not sure about other countries, but in the US, you can still buy the Viking Expansion in stores for dirt-cheap (below $10). It's usually Best Buy or Gamestop that will carry something like that. Call around your local area first though (obviously).

Really? In NZ its between $12 and $30, second hand. Not in stores anymore. You're lucky if you get it below $20 though.

Ancient Total War (over at the .org) good mod with some nifty features and distinct campaigns

Napoleon Total War more of a multi-player mod, but still good fun.

Medieval XL adds factions up the wazoo

Pike & Musket Total war same as ATW

Hellenic Total War haven't played this one yet, but is highly recommended by those who have.

I don't know about Rome though...

I have both MTWs, but I like playing MTW1 more than MTW2. However, if you take all of the great M2TW mods into account, the situation changes. Especially mods like Das HRR.

Actuallly, in America, I see MTW Gold for 10 Bucks New. Or try Ebay!!!

I got MTW + VI on ebay for $10 a year ago when my old cds became too scratched.
