Why on God's ancient green earth would macedon attack me the "Romans"?? it is 217 BC and I have taken control of the italian peninsula and macedon is raping me through my back door. I have tried diplomacy but they will not accept it. what is the best strategy to stop them?? I want about 10 to 15 years of peace without war so I can build up economy and military but there is no way I can do that when I keep having to send army after army over to defend. Mind you I have played two other campaigns as the Romans and this has never happened. Im about to pull a Bush and occupy this sh#@

Easiest way: Blockade the heck out of them. I mean, we're talking massive naval action.

Hard way: do what I'm doing and nerf the Greek Peninsula on all levels, then hit 'em with a tax reduction on top of that. Oh, and hack the map so they attack elsewhere first.

Send navy & a full stack to backstab their cities in greece. Also don't forget to bring up siege engines and spies, you can take city after city without waiting for the ram/tower to build.

AI greek cities did this once to macedon (they were allies ), and killed them in a few turns because macedon's focus was in gauls/dacia and lack any replenishment (no barracks there yet) and money after the greece is taken.

As already said by the others, blockade their ports and invade the Greece, taking (and sacking) every city you can. Devast it! Without Greek cities' income, the Macs will collapse. Ah, i forgot, defeat their armies!

after playing tons of campaigns killing blackstacks, i now started one were the Macedons aren't doing anything - very weird. playing the romans i beat pyrrhus, conquered tarentum and croton (leaving paestum, corfinium and reghium), got salona from the illyrians in a peace deal (bleeding my coffers) to get a foothold in the balkans as early as possible for the expected black onslaught .... that didn't come. I bribed scodra, and saw that appolonia and it's neighbour are still greek, although the rest of greece is now black. this gives me plenty of time to prepare salona as a recruitment center to control politics in the balkans. conquered aleria and caralis, messana revolted to me, syracuse i conquered, and then all the rebel cities in italy. i might succeed in creating a roman empire that looks sort of normal?

As stated by others the main reason that they are sending stack after stack against you is that they have their own virtual bank by controlling Greece. I had a similar problem when playing as the samartian faction and was advised to send an army by sea to attack Sparta, Corinth and Athens as that peninsula is easy to defend. I did this and also sent another army by land to capture a few of their other cities and distract their armies. I gained a couple of cities this way and destroyed all the buildings for much needed cash, before leaving them to besiege others.
I captured all the provinces on the peninsula and they seemed to send their armies to try to besiege Athens continually, which left my other borders in Sarmathia fairly peaceful. I also aquired a great income from these cities, built up a navy and besieged all their ports. It wasn't long before their finances dried up and so did their army building capabilities. Thrace and Egypt then decided that as they were now weak they would attack them, which kept them fairly busy.
